That's legitimate language, for a scientist. Scientists are trying to make sense out of things that no one knows about, and realize their interpretations could be wrong. So they're very hesitant to speak as if their interpretation of the data is the only possible interpretation. Thus, you will always see scientists using what I call "hedge" language--might, could, possibly.

I didn’t, I compiled them today, did a search ‘n’ replace on the source.

I’ve GOT to get my fire-and-forget programs moved over and translated to the new OS, they used to do all the work for me.
