Orwell was a prophet.
1984 was commonplace in Stalinist Russia, Nazi Germany and during the Spanish Civil War. The telescreens may have been an invention, but the routine erasure and rewriting of history, as well as the need to demonize an enemy were commonplace.

Alinsky was big on demonizing “enemies” as well.
Not to worry, though, Obama has called an end to “name-calling” in political debate. For us, anyway.
