Word For The Day, Thursday, January 24, 2013 – traduce
dictionaries ad nauseam | 24 January 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

traduce \truh – DOOS\ verb
1. to expose to shame or blame by means of falsehood and misrepresentation
2. violate, betray

Example sentences:
At the apex of the journalist's career, a jealous rival attempted to traduce her name with false allegations.

"In his introductory remarks, Stuart Proffitt, publishing director of Penguin Press and chairman of the prize committee, praised the BBC as the greatest cultural institution in the history of the world.... Here, at last, was someone prepared publicly to speak up for the BBC when so many others were seeking to traduce and destroy it."
— From an article by Jason Cowley in New Statesman, November 19, 2012

Fun facts:
"Traduce" is one of a number of English synonyms that you can choose when you need a word that means "to injure by speaking ill of." Choose "traduce" when you want to stress the deep personal humiliation, disgrace, and distress felt by the victim. If someone doesn't actually lie, but makes statements that injure by specific and often subtle misrepresentations, "malign" may be the more precise choice. To make it clear that the speaker is malicious and the statements made are false, "calumniate" is a good option. But if you need to say that certain statements represent an attempt to destroy a reputation by open and direct abuse, "vilify" is the word you want.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

i know that’s the traditional wisdom, that more conservative wins elections, but i don’t know if that will continue to hold true. Romney may not have been the perfect candidate, but i do not think anyone else would have had a chance against the Devil’s Own either. It may not even be that more conservative wins, but rather that the one with the biggest b@!!s wins. figurative ones of course. bc a ballsy woman could certainly do it.

Not to don a tin-foil hat or anything, but....

In my heart of hearts, I think that the GOP could have run a 100% PERFECT Candidate, and he/she STILL would not have won, due to massive election fraud, the mechanisms of which, I believe, have been in place since the 2010 “Shellacking”.

As Stalin said:

It is not who votes that matters,
But who COUNTS the votes.

I am envisioning things flying across the room behind him, boys being tackled, and empty pizza boxes lying all around while your son stands at the foreman grill with tongs in his hand. ;^)

The Republican Senators traduced Hillary’s weak spots by their sharp questions. is it true that NO Dem senators had a single question for her on Benghazi? Although i’ve beenavoiding the news, I heard that last night. NO questions. None. Zip. Nada.

I trust Rush to have done the research on it and he states it as fact frequently.

as i said it may have been true in the past, but after this election and the clear distinction presented between the two choices, and morons voted that in? well i think research is irrelevant and it remains to be seen how it shakes out in future. i honestly could not imagine him being elected the first time, and then REALLY thought, OMG who will vote for him THIS time around when it’s clear what he’s up to, and still we lost. Yes, moronic, cut-your-nose-off-to-spite-your-face type conservatives sat this out and hence were votes Romney did not get. If it had been, i don’t know, Newt, Santorum, instead and those moronic conservatives would have come out to vote for them, there would have been an equal if not greater number of more moderate voters who would have sat it out or voted obams. i honestly see NO hope.
