Fred Reed talked about this.

He discussed female muscle and bone mass. My take: As a 59 year old man that has not been to a gym in 4 years (I really need to get back to it) I could arm wrestle most “bodybuilder” women and, if I so choose, break their arm.

Period.

This whole thing is utter nonsense. It also brings up the whole equality thing on the flip side: Should women be required to register for the draft?

A civilized country puts women and children in combat as a last resort, and for its very survival, not to be “fair”.

Yep, I’ve read his columns on the topic. Fred is a pretty sensible guy, for the most part.

For sure. What is so fair and equal about women getting the option for combat. If it's going to be fair and equal take the option away. They will back track on this issue faster than Speedy Gonzales!

You need to get out more. Men are indeed naturally stronger, and have a much higher potential for strength than women. However, if you're 59 and don't work out, you'd be surprised at the number of women who'd make short work of you.

Using the bench press as a standard that almost anyone can understand: Without the aid of a bench shirt there are a lot of women who can bench in the 300's, a few even the 400's. Less than half that of their male counterparts, but still several times more than your average cube rat.

I don't disagree with your underlying principle. However, like most, you don't grasp how easily an in shape woman can surpass an out of shape man. The effects of being out of shape are far worse than your average couch potato will ever admit.
