If you goal is a prosperous, well educated (vs. indoctrinated), free people governed by the Constitution, then yes— the Government is run by idiots.
However, if your goal is to acquire power by making the populace to hopelessly dependent clients who look to Government bureaucrats for their livelihood, then the Government is run by evil geniuses.
Isaiah 3:1-4. Just substitute “the UK and the USA” for “Jerusalem and Judah”. Verse 4 we see in action every day.
You may call our politicians idiots, but they all seem to be getting rich at our expense. I guess it is all what the definition of “idiot” means.
This is a truth I think that many otherwise conservative people are afraid to admit. It's easier to believe that our government consists of well-intentioned people who are just inept.
A list like this actually sums things up better than a hundred political editorials could manage.
It is just mind-blowing when you really look at the full scope of things, and realize how wildly demented the whole culture of the country has become. Just to allow such insanity to happen in the first place. America has devolved into such an embarrassing farce. Were he alive, my grandfather and his no-nonsense generational peers would be stupefied into silence by it all, convinced that we’d become a nation of all-out dingbats... with a death-wish to boot.
A divide is coming, and their will be a time of choosing. By the sword the country will be riven and flow with the blood of tyrants and patriots mingling together.
We live in an idiocracy, well, a good chunk of voters fall into that but the people they elected are evil statists, they dang well know what they are doing with the exception of Joe Biden.

These people have gained control by fraud, theft, lies & deception - and we do NOTHING.
They are supported by:
the intellectually lazy - those that would rather believe what someone else (actor,singer, sports star, media head, etc.) tells them than think for themselves.
the self important- I know what's best for you because; I am smarter, richer, poorer, darker, lighter, urban, etc
the racist & race guilty - I'll vote for the guy that has my skin tone, I'll vote for the guy that doesn't match my skin tone to prove/ make me feel that I'm not a racist, I'm cool, I'm a rebel.
the greedy & jealous - I support whatever plan gives me something that I didn't earn or that takes from those that have more. No matter what harm it will cause the next day to others and myself

My grandfathers were born forty years after the end of the Civil War, into an America where most folks lived in rural communities and didn't have modern conveniences like cars, electricity, indoor plumbing, refrigeration, radio, television, etc.
They would live into the last decade of the twentieth century, and would witness men walking on the moon, the birth of the hand held calculator, and the home computer.
Like yours, my grandfathers (and mothers) were no-nonsense sort of people, whose outlook on life was rooted in the simplicities and fundamentals of American culture. They weren't fooled by the left, and called them out for what they were, for as long as they lived.
