Duran Duran's Simon LeBon: "Westeners should put recession into perspective."
OK! Magazine ^ | 1/27/13

Posted on 01/27/2013 11:06:01 AM PST by SilvieWaldorfMD

Pop star SIMON LE BON has urged Westerners to gain a level of "perspective" over the economic slump, insisting problems in Europe and the U.S. are minimal compared to the issues facing Africa.

The Duran Duran frontman has spoken out to share his views on the global recession and admits he is baffled by complaints from affluent families who need to tighten their belt.

He tells The Times, "We have to put this economic slump into perspective. Even though the recession might be tough on us in the West, we have to get through it and should remember how people live in Africa and India, where they have absolutely nothing but family, love, music and fun."

Fun .... ?

Like disease, poverty, rebel hordes who steal from them, rape their women, take their sons for war?

Please, Mr. whoever you are, tell me what "fun" exists for these people.

Sorry, but to this day I cannot watch the “We Are The World” video.

In fairness, he was Band-Aid and "Do They Know it's Christmas", which as unlistenable as it is these days, at least I could listen to it back then, as opposed to its terrible American bastard offspring, We Are the World, which might as well have been, "Sending Our Love Down the Well".

I quite agree.

30 years ago I was doing some work for a lady who was complaining bitterly about how difficult the economy was. Her prime example was that she’d only been able to spend a month in Europe that year rather than her usual two months.

I was at the time literally in a position where I’d sometimes sit by the phone hoping it would ring so I could get a project, make some money and buy groceries so the family could eat that night. Her complain rang a little hollow for me.

HA!

Weird....I’m currently reading John Taylor’s autobiography (DD’s bass player). It’s not bad, and he’s a pretty fair writer.

Also, I came across some very recent DD music on YouTube that’s better than the stuff they did in the 80’s. “All You Need Is Now” rocks.

My perspective? I've been a productive member of the work force for half a century, my income has declined 40% since 2007 through no fault of my own, I'm struggling to meet my mortgage payments and other obligations, and the Marxist bastard in the WH is raising my taxes.

If Simon LeBon wants to share the wealth, let him share his own!

Hilarious!

Catherine: Does John Taylor come across as more conservative than Simon in his autobio? I heard about it...

This goes with the topic we discussed in my Sunday School class this morning. Our teacher pointed out many wealthy people he knew, who had lots of toys and the latest gadgets, were very unhappy because their primary focus was on material possessions and not a relationship with the Lord and other people in their lives.

At last, at last! We've been holding pour collective breath waiting for Monsieur LeBon's expert opinion. Now what remains to complete the debate is the opinion of the leader of the Archies.

Where have I heard of that before? They think we should get used to less liberty, freedom and prosperity and just accept life in Gulag.

Okay, correction noted.

My original point still stands. These types of liberal, feel good outreaches serve no other purpose than for the self aggrandizement of liberal entertainers to show “how much they care” with little or no funds actually going to their cause. They all make me want to hurl!

Okay. This guy is a rock star. And as the great Alice Cooper noted:

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

(shrug)
I happen to love Duran Duran music.

I can’t see the name Simon Le Bon without a shreaking banshee sound going off in my head.

Until this celebrity is living on $50k a year (as half of all Americans are) and wondering how the higher taxes and energy/food costs demanded by the Obama regime will affect his standard of living, I invite him to STFU!!

*shrug*

I live on less than that, in Canadian dollars, with a higher tax rate, and I agree with le Bon about keeping perspective. I'm not exactly rich, but I'm well fed and my bills get paid.

I have read there are several members of rock groups who are schizophrenic.
