Skyfall, the latest James Bond blockbuster that grossed more than US$1 billion in ten weeks, has been lambasted by author Sebastian Faulks.

Faulks, who was commissioned by the estate of Bond creator Ian Fleming to write a Bond novel, described the film as 'pretty distasteful', criticised some of the acting and said the film's attempts to show a sensitive side to the spy hero had failed.

I greatly enjoyed the movie. I thought it was one of the best. Daniel Craig is so much better than Roger Moore etc...

I agree he’s far better then Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

As far as I can recall most of the Bond girls couldnt act.

Since when have ‘Bond Girls’ been required to ‘act’?

I thing the important thing is to remember is context and backstory; I agree with him. The fact that the characters lacked any real context, made understand their role impossible.

And Roger Moore agrees.
I heard him interviewed on the radio and he said “Skyfall” is the best bond ever and that Craig’s nailed it.

Moore was the Bond of my youth, but even I realize that his campy incarnation wasn’t the best. Not even the third best.

I did enjoy much of the film. However I agree with you a 100%. Had those issues been ironed out and the editing tightened they could have had not just a entertaining Bond film, but a truly GREAT Bond film.

Hollywood needs to relearn the art of storytelling is made great through precise and thoughtful editing that makes the story line and pacing the priority. The arrogance and laziness of Directors and Producers these days is obvious in their disregard of that well known fact.

I'm just being an ass, sorry. The last Bond movie I saw was 'The Living Daylights'. Watched it with my girlfriend and my mom. At the end, my mom said, 'I'm worn out'.

The girl, D'Abo, posed in Playboy.

I heard they stuck a homosexual element in that movie.

Was that to bring James Bond up to the state of our rotten culture? Sheesh!

The Bond Boy ain’t much to crow about. Red Grant without the warmth and charm.

No, they did not. For all of the movie’s faults (and there are many) that is not one of them.

Faulks said Bond's charm lies in the balance between his essentially cold character and the fact that he pits it against dark forces to protect Britain.

Even Ian Fleming described Bond as "a not particularly admirable character". As you know, due to hearing loss I haven't seen the movies with the Craig/Putin looking guy - but he has a mean look in still pictures, lol.

I came across a funny portrayal of Dr. No;

Red Grant I don’t know who that is but I first saw Red Green then Red Giant. ADD is more fun than lots of stuff.

Red Grant was the psychopathic henchman in both the novel and movie of “From Russia with Love” played by Robert Shaw. According to the novel, he was born around 1937, his mother was an Irish waitress and father was a German weight lifter in the circus and was a product of a rendezvous that lasted only 15 minutes.

One of the things that you must give credit to Fleming for, before the notion was accepted, was that serial killers started out killing small animals as children and eventually worked their way up to people.

There are a lot people who like to read things into films, and it is perfectly legitimate to express an opinion either way on the matter.

It really did not matter much to the plot since like 90% of the rest of movie, lack context. To be honest, I thought that scene was intended to create a level of discomfort among the audience and to generate free publicity.

In Fact, it has taken me longer to write this than the entire length of the scene.

This movie’s reviews were driven by a fantastic pr department, nothing more.We were hearing about “the best Bond film ever” here in California weeks before the film opened. Other than the beautiful cinematography this is really a very, very slow movie with a laughable bad guy and lacking the beautiful girls that almost all previous movies relied upon for it’s prerelease buzz. I love Bond films. I fell asleep twice. I know I didn’t miss a thing.
