How should I sell an old pick-up?
01/28/2013 | Mcgarrett

I have a pair of old 50's era Dodge pick-ups that have been sitting in the woods since the 1960's. Is it worth my while to try to sell them to someone who restores old vehicles, or just sell them to the junk yard?

Please don’t sell these trucks to a junkyard before exhausting other options. First place to put a notice (and pictures) would be Craigslist. It is pretty effective.

You might want to check with the Antique Automobile Association and put a notice on their buy/sell forum:

http://forums.aaca.org/forum.php?s=6d6afb70da12b4a64c4041e569a41f25

Here’s a link to a Dodge forum that has a section for used vehicles:
http://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-trucks-41/

These old trucks are getting more and more desirable. And, they’re part of American Automobile history.

I hope you find someone who wants them.

I have a lug nut from a ‘55 Chevy and plan to restore it to a complete car so don’t scrap those old parts.

Good pick-ups are hard to find.

Don’t scrap them. Old iron is getting rarer and rarer. Someone would love to restore these trucks.

My wife would kill me if I brought home another project.

Hmmm, 4bta Cummins, MII front suspension, 9”N rear,...

Who would even think of scrapping them. Crazy. Somebody needs those parts. Find someone to help you part them out if you don’t know how or run some posts on Craig’s list.

In other words, I don’t think you should scrap them.

If you're gonna sell 'em, part out and list the items on ebay:

McGarrett~:” I have a pair of old 50’s era Dodge pick-ups that have been sitting in the woods since the 1960’s. “

List them for sale on a prepepper board , or a survivalist board.
Preppers will pay premium for any auto pre-1972, or pre-computer .
Check out your options !

There are lots of auto recycling businesses who will not only buy your junk car, but will tow it away as well. They will pay you between 200 and 400 dollars, depending on how old your dead hooptie is and how many salvageable parts are still left in it.

Try first to sell to collectors. That’s probably what a junk yard would try first, then part them out for serious money to collectors. So, cut out the middle man and check yourself first.

Just look in the phone book under “Automobile Parts”.

There is a cable channel called Velocity. They have lots of restoration shows. Maybe you can research that and see if you can find a contact.

Thanks, it seems a shame though, the trucks are in pretty good shape.

You could search for Dodge truck forums. I’m not familiar with them, but there is a huge VW forum that has a classifieds section that is worldwide. Ads are free.

It wouldn’t hurt to check into a forum for the trucks.
