Need a suggestion for photo software.
Posted on 01/29/2013 12:46:45 PM PST by meatloaf
I need a suggestion for a program without a steep learning curve to position photos with descriptions on a page and print them. Other than short descriptions there's no text.
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: computer; photography; photos; pictures; software

Pretty easy to insert text once you figure out the font size you need in relation to the size of text box.

Power Point is good for that also. Get Microsoft Office and take your pick.

You’re gonna spend $799 for Microsoft Office as suggested? Google Docs (now perhaps called something else) will do that for ya for free!

Depending on the photos, I’d like to put 6 to 8 on a page.

If you're just positioning a photo and adding text, I suggest MS Word ... or the freebie equivalent -
Open Office If you want more photo editing capability, try
PhotoScape - free.
If you want a real challenge -
Photoshop CS2 is now available for free. (Look down the page for D/L file and serial number.)

Microsoft Publisher works great for that. Easy to postion and size pictures and make text boxes wherever you want to put them.

Unless you are a real pro I would suggest one of the earlier version of Photoshop Elements.
I have seen them on ebay for at or below $30.

I like Photoshop Elements for what you are describing. You can get it for under $100 and can take care of almost any of your needs. I had been running Photoshop 7 for several years on an old computer but bought a new laptop and couldn’t believe how much they want for that so I bought Elements.
I also use Microsoft Publisher quite effectively as well.
Virtually every image on this website has been massaged in one way or another with both Photoshop and Elements.

Microsoft Publisher works great for that.I learned to use Publisher at least fifteen years ago. Back then it was very simple. Now running Publisher 10 and it has grown to a pretty sophisticated and useful program. Course all the experts make fun of me. We publish quite nice 32 and 40 page catalogs with about 120-150 images.

Yes, Microsoft Office would be the best way to go.
You can get all the Office applications as part of a subscription for $100/Year for up to 5 PCs. So $20/year per PC and you have full Microsoft Office.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/
Would rather buy than subscribe? You can get Office Home & Student 2013 for $140.00 (street price less)
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/home-and-student/
OK. Still not cheap enough.
You can use Microsoft Office for *FREE!* Yes Free!
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/skydrive/download
And store up to 7GB for FREE.
All of the above will synchronize with the cloud and allow you to access your files on PCs, tablets (Surface, iPad, Android), and SmartPhones (Windows Phone 8, iPhone and Android)

MicroSoft Publisher worth the money; Easy to use and very versatile; Easier and better for graphics/pics than any word processor. Brochures,Flyers and more; in fact get it off Ebay
an older version disc starts at $10 and can go up to $50 there for what you want.

The "pros' laugh, but I used to work in the graphic arts field and it is a great program. I have published newsletters, made book covers, quickie web site graphics and even use it now to create stunning animation stills used in HD video projects. People are blown away when I tell them that I created a certain video special effect with Microsoft Publisher.

Adobe Photoshp Elements - reasonably priced and more features than you’ll ever use.
To: oh8eleven
If you want a real challenge - Photoshop CS2 is now available for free. (Look down the page for D/L file and serial number.) Adobe has put out a statement that the download and serial number are for current Photoshop CS2 licensees. (They're retiring the activation servers for that product and a number of other products.)

To: Bob
the download and serial number are for current Photoshop CS2 licensees.
When Adobe shut down the servers that handled product activation requests for CS2, complaints from existing customers who needed to reinstall their paid-for copies of PS CS2 started because they were unable to activate them.
As a solution, Adobe then posted the PS CS2 free download and serial number.
First of all, just how many licensees needing a re-install could there have been?
And second, since Adobe is the source of the problem, why didn't they just make CS3 available to the individual CS2 users who needed to re-install?
