.22 LR the new gold standard?
vanity

Posted on 01/29/2013 4:44:13 PM PST by hadaclueonce

.22 LR ammo is on back order at all wholesellers. Who is buying it up?

Oil speculators?

Late to come to the party preppers?

The Feds?

Price on the secondary market has gone up 5 times here in Texas.

People are going to .22 for cheapest target practice. Only now it’s not so cheap.

You know there is panic buying when even odd sizes like that are gone.

I'm even having trouble finding .38 S&W (not .38 Special) for my 1890s revolver.

I’ve owned some pretty “outside the mainstream” calibers over the years, but in the last 5-10, I’ve tried to pare things down for some degree of standardization. Right now, about the most “exotic” chambering I need to feed is 10mm, which has always leaned toward the expensive side, but thus far, where I’m at, can still be found on some store shelves.

Anyone come across a high-cap mag for a 10/22 that actually works?

I was just delivered 30 lbs. of .357, .40, and .45. It even included Gold Dot.

I was stunned that the order went through.

I am claiming to be the 22 lr rifle, accessories, and ammo expert. Why? Because I have spent three months researching every gun company and ammo company I could find on the net every day, looking for a Ruger 22 lr and 22 lr hollow point bullets. While doing that, I would also see there are no 22 lr rifle made by any company for sale. I watched Rugers go, before the crunch hit, for $150, and by the time I found a Ruger 22 rifle, the price was $260 and I bought it. I just saw that same rifle today for $370.

During these months, I've managed to get a Hot Lips 25 cartridge magazine for it and now those are gone. I found I could order a Ruger made one from the company website and I have done that and waiting for it to get here. Those are going for $100-150 now from individuals on auction, but the Ruger company price was in the $30s.

I just today found where I could get CCI hollow points for it, coming to that company next week and I'm not telling where that is until I get mine ordered and I hope I'm fast enough to get them before they're gone and they are not expensive for a package of 375.

If any of you have done more to find them and their accessories and ammo than I have, I'll give my expert title to you.

I do think that ammo prices have kept the .22 LR as one of the most popular for those on tight $$ that want to practice.

That's probably very true.

Agreed, and the best, smoothest, best performing handgun I ever shot was a ‘tuned’ .45, it was awesome.

I believe it.
Here's a vid of the De Lisle silent carbine being fired off.

Part of the “plan”? Gun control through ammo shortage? High price IS a form of rationing. Is the Obama (mis)administration buying up ammo in LARGE quanities? Dry up the “fuel” (ammo), and you get defacto “gun control”.

6 years ago, A 70 round bandolier of 1946 head stamped Turkish 8mm Mauser was $3.

Now it is $70 IF you can find it.

I made a lucky hit on an internet website a few nights ago, bought 5 boxes of 375 count CCI Mini Mags ... I had my order confirmed and by the time I typed a text to my buddies ... they were sold out again.

Craziest thing I have ever seen.

Great question. I was told it’s the ammo that causes the jamming.

Is the Obama (mis)administration buying up ammo in LARGE quantities?

I think there may be something to that. All of the reported orders lately have been overblown in their size, it isn't that much more than what was ordered for these departments during the Bush administration. What is different is ordering five year contracts at one time versus year by year like under President Bush. There was already a primer component shortage as recently as 2009 so a sudden five year government order can really strain an already strained system.

Like I told Marcella awhile back... IF you can get them now, Rugers own made in the USA BX-25 25 shot magazine is the only one I have found that works flawlessly. Good Luck finding one!

It’s your governments creating an artificial shortage by fiat demands to end a public health hazard.

A good many Americans disagree with their dishonesty and are buying anything and everything in the event these toads achieve their Devil Worshipin, Satanic Inspired, Kommunistuh aims.

He’ll, I’ve got .22’s ot the yin yang and I don’t really shoot .22 much.

I don’t shoot .223 but it is the least available cartridge in Texas. It has all seemed to vanish and the price is high.

Should be easy to unload what you have.
