He and Rock Hudson lived together but Rock finally moved out. He didn’t like where he lived because he was “up to his ass in nabors”.
Jim Nabors is still alive?
the guy is 82 years old, has never pushed his views on anyone and from all the evidence I have seen is a good and decent person.. He along with singers like Andy Williams filled my home (as a child) with beautiful Christmas music over the years... I have nothing negative to say about the man and wish him a long life

At last year’s Indy 500, his performance of “Back Home in Indiana” was delivered via videotape. Kinda makes me wonder how lovely it is these days, or if maybe he’s no longer up to singing it live at his age.

That’s a 37 year courtship! My wife never would have stood for that long a delay.
Damn it Pyle ! Don’t tell me, “surprise, surprise, surprise” ! One year, we listened to the Indy 500 back in the early 1990’s and my dad made a comment on Jim Nabor’s singing “Back Home in Indiana” by referring to him as a ****ing queer.
Yeah, and Nabors pleaded with Hudson to deny it, because it was hurting his career. In relatively short order, CBS cancelled his prime time variety show, and Nabors’ daytime talk show barely lasted a year. At the time, there were reports that TV station managers were uncomfortable carrying a program hosted by a performer who was rumored to be gay.
So much for rumors. And as I recall, neither the variety show or the talk show were very good, regardless of Nabors’ sexual proclivities.
One more thing: at one point in my military career, the NCOIC who worked for me was a native of Hawaii, and lived not far from where Nabors bought his estate. According to my NCOIC, the “parties” at his house raised more than a few eyebrows, but “Gomer” managed to keep his homosexuality out of the public eye for decades.

“Gomer” is from my hometown. We have about 12,000 folks here and he comes home a couple of times a year. Never with his boyfriend. My first wife is his cousin. He graduated high school here and his best friend (well maybe 2nd best) graduated with him and Jim stays with their family when he’s in town. The “gay thing” is something we just don’t talk about. He is a truly nice guy and I wish him well.

I remember the old joke about Gomer taking up boating and was last seen bobbing up and down on the Hudson.
He actually donates to Republican candidates. Probably the only gay actor that does.
When he appeared at our county fair in the mid-80’s he was not out of the closet, but immediately everyone figured he was gay. They seemed fine with that, though the whole town wanted to strangle this obnoxious boyfriend of his.
Sadly, thanks to Gomer Pyle, USMC, I was well into grade school before I realized that US Marines actually did anything besides rake gravel and enter singing contests.
