Around 15 years ago someone dropped off a pregnant Lab here.

She had 8 pups and was a good mama dog. Six of them were various mutts but two looked to be all or nearly all Lab. When they were old enough, I put up a sign and gave away all of them within a few days. Every time I would give one away mama dog would try to follow the vehicle. Finally gave her and a pup away together.

The one I kept was a really sweet dog. He was also a useful dog out in the country where I live.

I never could understand why anyone would just throw away such a good dog.

In my lifetime, I’ve had numbers one, two and three in that list. I’ve also had a mutt (combo of two and three) and now have a Labradoodle (combo of three and eight, standard poodle.)

All GREAT dogs, magnificent in their own ways, highly intelligent, family friendly and easily trainable, though the German Shepherds take the most work.

Their names were Jeepers (German Shepherd) Sanford (Golden Retriever, nicknamed Bonehead) Jerry (Shepherd Golden Retriever mix) and now Teddy, a Labradoodle.

Each one was an example of mans best friend.

OMG, how could I forget my first dog, “Licker.” Named such because he gave everyone a lick “kisses.” Family already had him when I was born, he died when I was six or seven. What a great dog for a young boy.

HINT: choose Lab color to match the color of your carpeting and pants/furniture

Best dogs in the world are muts. Every one I’ve had has been a stray. The best of all was a Siberian Husky mix. Smartest and most polite dog ever. I don’t cry over people as much as I do her all these years after she went over the rainbow. Screen is getting blurry now...

I've had several breeds of dog, including beagles, but I like boxers best (excluding that rabid b!tch from CA).

They can be refined:

or silly:

But almost all the time, happy;

My yellow Lab is named Hoover like the vacuum. We got him at 13 weeks and the breeder already named him. It fits perfectly. His nose is to the ground after every one of our meals. He starts at my sons spot because he’s the messiest. My kids love that dog more than us I think....

How can a person not adore
The aspect of a Labrador?
The otter tail, the silly grin,
The open heart to take you in.
Wonderful love from earnest eyes
Heart-warming truth, a friend so wise.
At play, at work, at rest, at ease,
The Labrador was born to please.

We have a lunatic. A lunatic is a Labrador. Ours is 18 this year sometime. He just had a stroke a few weeks ago, and Mrs. RQSR has nursed him back to the point he is running, and playing again albeit torqued, and unable to stand straight, and erect. He obviously feels good, and tries to leap, and run about as though he was a puppy whenever we come into the fenced front patio where we keep him for his security. His functions are impaired, but not to the point he needs to be euthanized by any means. We will keep him comfortable as we can to the end. He’s a good boy, and always has been although typical of the breed he’s nuts.

One of the first words our young daugheter taught our dog was “vacuum”. We use it when we drop a bit of food in the kitchen and he comes running.

Boy, that is certainly true.

Because of shedding, when we went shelter shopping for a pooch in 2009, I specifically wanted a dog with short dark fur.

At the time, I was unaware that our yellow lab — AKA Super Shedding Machine — was about to choose us.

Have a 3 year old golden. Of you get within petting distance, you are committed for at least an hour. Dog is 70 pounds of pure unadulterated love. And we still train him.

When I had my big black lab/golden retriever cross, I was often asked whether he was dangerous (his deep bark was threatening to solicitors at the front door). I told them only to small children because his fast moving wagging tail could knock them over!

They all showed up at different times.

Got the 12-year-old Chocolate for my kids. She turned out to be a live wire and a great Agility and Obedience dog before we got into Hunting Tests. She did well there, too.

The 6-year-old Black arrived when we got serious about Hunting Tests. She has a lot more drive than the Choc (who is half conformation bred) but she's a loon (the judges nicknamed her Psycho Ruby). At 6 she has settled down a good deal and will be running in Finished soon.

The Yellow is 3, almost 4, and a complete sweetheart - a nice compromise between the Choc and the Black. All she wants to do is make me happy. We're thinking about breeding her to a very nice Yellow HRCH in Indiana.

None of them are very closely related, although the Yellow and the Black share one famous ancestor, 2xNAFC 2xCNAFC FC CFC Ebonstar Lean Mac. But that's true of just about any high-up field dog, at least in the last 10 years or so. The Choc is descended from a different national field champion, and her full brother is a GRHRCH. But she came to retrieving late - age 6 - and certain aspects of the game were tough for her (like handling. She still doesn't like to handle.)
