That man spoke the God’s honest truth. In the U.K. right now, the unarmed cops are running around confiscating assault kitchen knives and assault baseball bats. If you don’t believe me, Google it.

According to the Ministry of Homeland Defense they are "personal defense weapons." But only if they 14" barrels, are select fire capable and easily concealable.

"select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required."

So it looks like they are "PDW's."

From the specifications... DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and / or when maximum concealment is required.

The action shall be select-fire (capable of semi-automatic and automatic fire).

The action shall be capable of accepting all standard NATO STANAG 20 and 30 round M16 magazines (NSN 1005-00-921-5004) and Magpul 30 round PMAG (NSN 1005-01-576-5159). The magazine shall have a capacity to hold thirty (30) 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.

The receiver top shall be equipped with an integral MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail for mounting sights and other accessories.

The fire control selector shall have three positions; safe, semi-automatic, and automatic.

The pistol grip shall be a fixed, vertical pistol grip constructed of a durable material.

The full description is here...

https://www.fbo.gov/utils/view?id=09c3d5e933bc24416b752b57294a17b3

So, in order to fulfill the requirements of an evil Assault Weapon, one must replace the short (approx.) 14" barrel with a common standard 16" barrel.

Eliminate the fully automatic capability.

Then the helpful and utilitarian "personal defense weapon" transforms into an evil "Assault Weapon" that can induce it own violence by indiscriminately spraying bullets that uncannily seek out the innocent bystanders.

By the way, this part is actually interesting. From the specification...

3.12 Overall Length.

3.12.1 The overall length of the firearm shall not exceed 30 inches with the stock fully extended. 3.12.2 The overall length of the firearm shall not exceed 20 inches with the stock fully retracted and/or folded.

If a standard AR pattern is utilized with a common collapsible stock that would force the barrel to be about 4-5 inches long. This requirement can only be fulfilled with a folding stock. And a folding stock eliminates the common action utilized in your run of the mill AR. Which pretty much eliminates the standard pattern AR.

Question: What American manufacturer produces a firearm that can meet that spec?

.

Why is it that that Homeland Security bought 7000 SELECT FIRE (semi- or full-auto) PERSONAL DEFENSE RIFLES, whereas my semi-auto only rifle is an ASSAULT WEAPON???

There, fixed it.

This very articulate guy is to the firearms culture what ‘macho sauce’ is to the political arena. Always worth a listen/look at Youtube.

Can we get real for a minute? What's all the hoopla about so-called "assault rifles?" They're pretty much lightweight underpowered knickknacks made to appeal to kids who play Call of Duty and our increasingly feminized military, with a 22 caliber intermediate round that's designed more to wound than kill. Take a step back and think about other military small arms desginators and it will make sense. Back when the US military were Jolly Green Giants walking the earth did they carry "assault rifles" or "personal defense weapons?" No! They carried MAIN BATTLE RIFLES! The Mark I Mod 0 Nazi Extermination Device that uses a manly 7.62x63mm round that can knock down and kill with one hit a poof with an AR-15 before his 5.56x45mm round can even reach as far.

Yes the above is partly tongue in cheek.

“Question: What American manufacturer produces a firearm that can meet that spec?”

Cut 5.5 inches off the barrel of a Keltec SU-16C and it would meet those numbers. It is 5.56/.223 but doesn’t follow the AR15 design.

I don't own an assault weapon.
Those were tightly restricted by the National Firearms Act of 1934.

I do own a Tyranny Response Rifle. AKA a Homeland Defense Rifle.

You would have to pull off about 7” of barrel but a FNH SCAR 16S would do it. I wonder, are they manufactured here?
