'Reg Presley, lead singer of 60s rock band The Troggs, has died aged 71.
The band's frontman died at his home in Hampshire, his daughter, Karen, confirmed to the BBC.
The Troggs had a number of hit songs, including Wild Thing and Love Is All Around.
Music publicist Keith Altham paid tribute to Presley on Facebook, saying his "dear old pal" had died "following a succession of recent strokes and a losing battle with cancer".
Presley announced his retirement from music a year ago after being taken ill during a concert in Germany and then being diagnosed with lung cancer.'
“Wild Thing” is truly an iconic song.

Although I am a child of the late 1970s-early 1980s the Troggs had some really good tunes that got better with time. You can hear their influence in later bands

Wasn’t it? I remember lying in bed and listening to WVOL (Your Nashville Sound The Year Round) Motown at it’s finest.

In June, 1966, I was in England, where "Wild Thing," "Sunny Afternoon" by the Kinks and "Bus Stop" by the Hollies ruled the airwaves.
Summer 1966 was a great time for Top 40. Hanky Panky I think was another (without looking them up) Also seem to remember alot of One Hit Wonders from then. Great songs and radio, even if our transistors sucked by modern standards!
I loved that band.

“Wild Thang” was composed, in case you didn’t know, by the brother of the previous owner of the Chrysler Lebaron convertible I happen to drive. (He also composed “Angel of the Mourning”, and a lot of other less known things, as well as discovered Carrie Rodriguez, whom you must check out!)

The Troggs’ version was a cover (as were Bill Haley’s Rock Around The Clock and Elvis’ Love Me (Treat Me Like A Fool)). All were written as send ups of the music.

There were actually two different songs entitled "The Peppermint Twist" that charted late in 1961--The one by Joey Dee & the Starliters was the bigger hit, but the one by Danny Peppermint & the Jumping Jacks also charted--I'd link to it if it was on Youtube.
By 1966, the Twist had been passe for years, although something called the Afro Twist would soon be seen on dance floors. I did hear a few Yanks on the British rock stations, including Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels' version of Little Latin Lupe Lu.
In both England and France, the Mamas & Papas' "Monday, Monday" was a big hit. And in Italy, the Dikdiks' Sognando la California (California Dreaming), their version of a big Yank hit, could be heard on the rock stations. In Italy, I also heard Juanita Banana by the Peels on a rock station.
Flip it over! The "B" side will be a bigger hit on FR.

Did you ever hear the "Bobby Kennedy" cover of it? That was hilarious.
It’s interesting, both Sunny Afternoon and of course the Beatles’ Taxman both lamented excessive taxation.
What happened to the days when popular performers recognized this?
I can still get my 58 year old wife to shake her booty by playing the opening chords from Wild Thing on my guitar. DA DA!....DA DA DA ..DA! DA!
