Watching live coverage of local TV news. Chopper pilot reports that he was "ordered" to stop showing the area of the search for Christopher Dorner.

I didn't know that was possible.

I’m sure you’ll find justification for this abuse of power, by the authorities, buried somewhere in the Affordable Healthcare Act.

Well considering that now a days there are so many ways for someone to access TV on a portable device, let alone just watching TV, I can see where they would not want to have the suspect see what they are doing. As far as ordering the helicopter to stop showing the area, I guess if they did not comply the police could have forced them to leave the area. When lives are at stake I think the press should back off.

Interference in the duties of LEO has always been illegal.

The really don’t need the news helicopter giving this guy tactical information.

Good thing! the chopper would just get in the flight path of the Reaper in the area? Didnt the WH just defend it’s use against anyone who takes up arms against the govt? And this dude shot a few cops, so, obviously, Obama green lighted his a$$ for a Reaper?

I don’t know if he’s long gone. Given that he’ll be a folk hero to some people in LA I’m sure he can find a safe place to stay somewhere in Compton, Watts, or even East LA.

Or maybe even Malibu or Hollywood.

It is customary to ask the reporters to turn off their cameras.

"Ordering" is previously unprecedented. And now an ugly precedent has been set.

Use Gen. Schwarzkopf’s method.

When you want to concentrate on the suspect in an area of interest, fake out the news media (lie to them).

Set up a diversion, complete with search teams and helicopters, in another area.

News will report, suspect will watch (or hear on radio), and perhaps get a little complacent.

I would go this.

He’d probably be busy negotiating a deal with the Obama administration whereby he can become Obama’s poster boy for gun control, “racial equality”, and against police brutality.

The FAA DID NOT ISSUE A TFR, any orders given are NOT ORDERS and NO Pilot is required to follow them. I have the aopa TFR page open, NO TFR’s . and I just looked and found no NOTAMS either. This is just THUGS protecting one of their own and the Citizens be Damned. If I were flying around there right now I would be demanding his AUTHORITY to Override the FAA. And just to be clear ONLY THE FAA can issue NOTAMS or TFR’s.

“Interference” is pretty ill-defined. Are you sure that its just that they don’t want any more videos of shootings of women who happen to be driving the same vehicle as the suspect (strange, though - there were apparently no dogs in the truck).

I’m glad that I drive something fairly unique...

No Police Officer, FBI agent or ANY OTHER PERSON other than the FAA can order any Aircraft to leave an area that does not have an ACTIVE TFR in Place issued by the FAA and PUBLISHED, Not even the Governor of ANY STATE,

You might actually get the facts straight before spouting nonsense about a subject you obviously know nothing about, and Yes I am a Pilot and have 2 airplanes.

They are real slow publishing this on their site then, which is ALWAYS DONE FIRST, that is how the controllers get it, so Until it is published it is not valid, not to mention it isn’t much of a TFR anyway, 3 miles and 3000 ft is nothing, and They could all still film away if they wanted to. They do it all the time for FIRES, and so have I.

Federal aviation authorities on Thursday ordered media helicopters to stay away from an area around Big Bear where authorities were intensifying their search for a former LAPD officer wanted in connection with a deadly shooting spree.

Earlier Thursday, law enforcement authorities had expressed concern that helicopter TV cameras were compromising officer safety by showing police as they combed the snow-covered mountains where Christopher Dorner, 33, is believed to have fled.

The temporary flight restriction was ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration and covered an area spanning three nautical miles on the surface to an elevation of 3,000 feet, said Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the agency in Los Angeles.

A pickup truck that was found burning Thursday was linked to Dorner, who allegedly has killed three people and wounded two others. Police found fresh tracks in the snow in the area Thursday afternoon as they hunted for the fugitive.

The former Los Angeles Police Department officer is suspected of shooting three officers, killing one, Thursday morning in Riverside County.
Dorner also is suspected of killing a couple on Sunday in Orange County, where they were found shot in a car. One of the victims was the daughter of a former LAPD captain named in an online manifesto that police say was posted by Dorner.

Your GPS enabled smartphone?

I don't know, whatever phone it is that gives you internet access to see what's going on in the news........

It's now obvious that the burning of his truck was just a decoy so it's pretty safe to say that he knows what he's doing and is likely taking advantage of every tech toy that is available to him.......

With that being said, I doubt the MSM is now being given accurate info from the authorities since they're so quick to broadcast it.... Anything they may be reporting is likely false information in order to conceal what info and actions the law enforcement agencies are actually doing.

Examble being, the latest report is that authorities still suspect he's up in the Big Bear resort area. That's not likely due to the cold, lack of shelter and lack of food and water. He's long gone from there, and the authorities know it..........
