The tiny Nevada town that's home to one of the most powerful men in Congress is up for sale. The main properties in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's hometown of Searchlight went on the market this week for just under $5 million. The 88-year-old woman who owns the Searchlight Nugget casino, a motel and a former brothel, says that she's ready to retire to Montana.

I have an idea... Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh should buy Searchlight and make it the new home for freedom.. Maybe build another Hillsdale College, maybe a Goldwater Institute, make it the Conservative center of the Country. It's easy to get to, only 40 minutes from Las Vegas. Palin had a little Tea Party the a few years ago...Over 50,000 showed up.

Does Harry come with it? He’s been for sale since the mafia built the strip.

Reminds me of an old ABC made for TV movie where a millionaire buys a Nevada town and sets it up for people who need a “Second Chance” which was the title of the 1972 movie. Brian Keith played the millionaire and it also starred William Windom, Elizabeth Ashley, Rosie Grier and Avery Schreiber. Would be kind of cool to have a libertarian/conservative Galt’s Gulch. I wonder how close it is to Pahrump, would be cool to have Art Bell as mayor. B-)

But Marik says Searchlight could get a boost from a nearby gold mine that may open in coming weeks.

Bwahahahaha

C'mon people, get in on the ground floor, would a real estate broker lie.

I believe the better bargain would be to send Harry back there first, then make taking title of the town conditional on ensuring Harry remains within the city limits.

I live near there. Searchlight because of it’s unique location berween I40, Laughlin/Bulllhead City and Las Vegas/I15 could be a steal at 5 Mil...

Ecxept for three letters.....BLM.

As such, it’s worthless as anything but a rest stop on the wat to somewhere else. And even that is hyperregulated. Yes, even in Nevada.

I’ve been through Searchlight many years ago and am familiar with the southern tip of NV. So Searchlight is surrounded by BLM land? If so it’s like you say, worthless.

Yup. More fences and signs go up all the time.

Of course the off-road race course near there that was shut down due to the endangered tortoise now has a couple billion dollar solar facility sitting on it....

Described by one member of the MSM, if memory serves, as "dozens".

It would be great, but in your position, you know the likelyhood of this area coming out of it with the good end or a fair end of the deal. The Feds would put so many mitigation requirements on a land swap, it would make it self defeating.

And knowing Clark County as I do, they would take years to decide anyway. Then sue.

I hate being a pessimist Hildy, but I dealt with both Clark CO when I was in Vegas at Off-Road.com and the BLM directly too many times to believe otherwise.

Well jz I’m a real estate broker and I take offense to your snide remark. If it takes lying or pulling the wool over a clients to get a deal done, then the deal does not get done.
