Word For The Day, Monday, 2/11/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. harsh discordance of sound; dissonance: a cacophony of hoots, cackles, and wails. 2. a discordant and meaningless mixture of sounds: the cacophony produced by city traffic at midday. 3. Music. frequent use of discords of a harshness and relationship difficult to understand.
Etymology: 1650s, from Gk. kakophonia, from kakophonos "harsh sounding," from kakos "bad, evil" (see caco-) + phone "voice" (see fame). Related: Cacophonous.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
I have been caught up in the cacophony of speculation over Pope Benedict's resignation.

No pushing at the door please!
One’s thoughts turn to END TIMES about now...
"..snot nose kid got me in trouble by leaving one of those plastic piles on the living room carpet"
ha! i see what you did there.. ; ) A+++
Good morning. The so called storm of the century was over the next morning. We kept to our Saturday routine. This morning they were threatening “ice storm”....yeah, a few minutes of freezing rain without any car accidents. School buses were on time. The frozen tundra is just another day in paradise. I do feel bad for those who lost power, though. Too cold for that.
Sorry i didn’t see yours before posting mine.
Among the cacophony of Pope jokes, shock and news...Brett Baier said that the white smoke beats Ohio in picking a new Pope. I have to agree. Obama’s SOTU speech not the talk of the day, the Pope upstaged him.
The Left’s Cacophony of Lies Attempts to drown out the truth.
The cacophony over Pope Benedict’s resignation from liberal media commentators like Soledad O’Brien and Piers Morgan is intolerable!!!!
A+++ me too.
i find the nasty posts by FReepers about it more upsetting than those libtards. A+++
and THAT is the upside to this sad news! A+++
LOL re caca phoney! A+++
When Reagan spoke, I heard a symphony
From Obama, merely cacophony
Deflection and lies
His favorite disguise
For increasing his left-wing hegemony
like i said the rabid anti-Papists on FR are doing so as well. does not reflect well on their supposed Christianity. Guess their moms never taught them that if you can’t say something nice... SHUT THE HECK UP.
A+++ wouldn’t it be great if NO ONE watched the SOTU tomorrow PM?
the Pope Benedict XVI has named a lot of new Cardinals....I imagine they are more conservative, as he is. the Conclave should be interesting.
I’m afraid I will hear a cacophany of drilling today due to an intense toothache I’ve had for several days.
that is a positive thought.
A+++ oh noooooooooooooooooo! toothaches are horrible! i blame theD!
I heard Cardinal Dolan is one of the leading contenders for Pope......though they said his being American is a major negative. We shall see. I believe we have never had an Asian Pope...hmm.
i cannot imagine an American being made pope. And i am not sure of how rigorously conservative Dolan is?
I hear you, there are certainly more conservative Bishops...I suspect they will go the traditional route with a European Pope. I am still waiting for a new bishop. Will he leave it to the next Pope or name one this month?
The guy in the White House is a Caca Phony..............
finally, Obama and the Catholic Church have something in common....both empty chairs.
I read that the bookmakers in England have the $ on a 65 yo African Cardinal from Ghana. Africa would be good, bc i think they are very conservative.
I have heard already that there is an African and Asian both as top contenders. Both very conservative. Much more likely than an American.
A+++ you have to pinky-swear that you didn’t copy offa ConorMacNessa... ; )
would be nice, too, if the new Pope was in his 50s.
In all the history i have read of the Borgia popes etc. with them needing taste-testers for food etc. if it’s as cut-throat as it was back in those days.
There are some Freepers who would expect me to be the nastiest one of all. Not!
I will pray for Pope Benedict.
I am a good FReeper! I never read anything before commenting!........I swear!..........
the way MO shovels in the food, I suspect she is BHO’s food taster.
I hear Susan Rice is the one. ;-)
no, i know who the nasty ones are, bc they are known by their fruits/posts. i would never have thought you to be nasty and glad to hear you aren’t : )
Thank you for saying that! I swear you would have thought the NE was getting 5 feet of snow instead of 36 inches. Even a transplant totally unused to more than a few inches of snow handled the snowfall we got once at 36 inches. I don’t recall any declaration of emergency or need for Federal help - it’s not like they never get snow in that area and don’t know what to do.
I see chuck hagel was a D student who attended 5 different universities before he graduated. and they trashed Sarah Palin. Obama sure picks them, doesn’t he? Hope hagel goes down like rice.
SU hockey’s Friday PM game was cancelled, but they played Saturday’s game with no problem.
I see the retiring Pope has replaced the storm for the MSM....they are not even talking about 0’s speech tomorrow. All good.
Is that a tactical knife she’s using to cut the cake?
