SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) - A 72-year-old man was walking to his home when he was confronted by four male suspects and beaten in north Sacramento, all for the $15 he had in his wallet.

The victim, Robert Norris, described a brutal beat down, all for a few bucks.

“They used their fists,” he said. “One of them kicked me.”

It happened off Del Paso Boulevard and Forrest Street. Norris was feeling outnumbered Sunday around sunset.

“They helped themselves to my wallet,” he said. “I wouldn’t give it to them. Four of them and one of me, so I figured I didn’t have much of a chance.”

They made out with $15 and his ID, leaving him banged up and bloodied, his ear split.

A caregiver in the area says she feels for the seniors at Forest Palms Apartments, a community that now intends to provide protection.

“My clients don’t even like to come out of their house,” Melinda Metlock said. She said the seniors “deserve to have a peaceful life and to be able to live without fear.”

They installed a gate several years ago to protect the seniors in this community and it works well for the most part but the caregiver says a lot of times as soon as that gate opens, trespassers try to run in

I am not sure about the point of the headline is, because so many murders are done free of charge.

This thuggish behavior is also on the uprise in Chico, CA, which is 90 miles north of Sacramento. In the past 10 days there have been a rash of stabbings and strong-arm robberies.

...four male suspects and beaten...

By not telling us, they told us.

This is becoming a huge problem all over the country.

Blacks youth’s (male and female) usually under 25 years old and hanging around in packs..

They feel “emboldened” now...

I heard the great Ellen Ratner tell someone that said that he needed a gun for protection when he was on her t.v. program, “the police will protect you.” Either she lied or the police did a piss poor of a job protecting this guy. But this is what happens when you depend on someone else to do for you that you should do yourself. If he at least had a pocket knife, this story might have ended differently.

Yet, some people continue to live and want to live in California.

I think that self protection is becoming more important every day. Calif. and some other states are proving this Quote 100% correct.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (Thomas Jefferson Quoting Cesare Beccaria)

Yeah, should move to a state where these things don’t happen.

In places without gun liberty, it is foolish indeed to venture out without some serious weaponry. And because the fools in California have tried to outlaw even martial arts weapons, you have to be creative to carry weapons that do not look like weapons.

One of the simplest, but quite effective, is an ordinary Master Lock with about a foot and a half long rope or strap through its shackle, the metal loop on top. As long as you can separate the two, it is not a weapon. But it can deliver a mean and injurious wallop, with a high rate of wallops per minute.

Even visiting a place like California for a short time, a good trick is once each day to visit a dollar store and buy a large, serrated kitchen knife in an easy open package. Just carry it around in its package, and keep the receipt, and you have a legal and formidable weapon. Pitch it at the end of the day and write that dollar off.

Thank God he didn’t have a gun to allow for a proper and effective self-defense.

I’ll bet he feels pretty smug that he had the moral high ground in this encounter.

Was the victim a registered Democrat or a decent person?

I’m guessing the victim and perps were minorities... probalby Hispanic or black...or combination. If the perps had been white Jesse Jackson would have been quoted and NBC would be doctoring a tape or two... If the victim had been white the story wouldn’t have run...

And here I thought that William Land Park was the worst part of Sackatomatoe.

I guess it’s just all bad now.

I think it’s just the ‘Bama affect. Chico has always seemed pretty peaceful. His zombies are just spreading out.
