Walmart Sales Slide

Walmart sales called a 'total disaster'. Anyone else making the connection with the shoddy treatment of gun owners and the slavish boot kissing of the Administration?

It's mostly local places, a non-union grocery store, or online like everybody else.

I think most people shop at many large stores, they buy their groceries, clothes, appliances, electronics at box stores which are to the left of, and in competition with Walmart.

You avoid Walmart.

It’s not just Walmart. The continuing recession is chocking the financial life out of many of Walmart’s customers.

Just yesterday, I was at King Soopers (Kroger affiliate), and I asked the girl at the service desk if one had to join a union in order to work there.

She said no, unless you work in the meat department. I found that interesting, because that's what I did at walmart. Meat department.

So I'd have to do something else were I to be hired there.

When you see and hear leftists tell stories about Tea Party activities and gatherings, do you believe them too?

Supposedly Tea Party members are also fat, white bigots who who make threats and get totally out of control...

Tell you what, FRiend, I don’t like all of Walmart’s policies or politics either...but where I live the stores are clean, the staff is eager and helpful (if not always expert) and I would far and away rather be there than in a Starbucks or for that matter a Costo with its constant contingent of posing, strutting snobs.

This is just my thought, but the people that used to shop Walmart now shop at dollar stores and any other place they can get needed goods for the cheapest possible price.

It looked like you were informing us or at least trying to create the impression that Walmart meat is union, just like the store that you choose to shop at while choosing to avoid Walmart, I don't think that it is.

""Kroger is a union company and its employees are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).""

People who are really strapped for cash do very minimalist shopping, spending as little as possible to do it, and that includes cost to get there. Walmart is almost always a “Supercenter” destination type store, anchoring a local strip shopping center. These are scattered around, not necessarily being the closest place.

Dollar General, on the other hand, has smaller stores in every little burg, they're close by. Selection is much thinner but prices are just as good if not better, and it's handy.

I'd never set foot in a dollar store until 2008, now I buy most of my incidental stuff there, it's a mile away and right on my commute. I hit an actual grocery store, in my case Food Lion, once, maybe twice a month at most. Meats, produce, the things a Dollar General does not stock.

It can be sort of depressing, because the poorest of the poor do shop there, especially on Saturday with the $5.00 off coupon on a $25.00 purchase. But, it works. So, I continue to do it. There are lines at their checkout now, which is a relatively new thing.

Walamart is becoming it's own worse enemy in several respects. The first thing harming them is their on time delivery or rather inventory system. High Sales Volume Items are not being kept in stock and the next so called on time delivery may be a week off and then in limited quantities. The very basics of retail sales is you must stock such items to sell such items. Not having such items means lost sales.

The next things is people are learning that their big ticket items with brand names are not usually of the same quality as items sold by dealerships. Investing in any outdoor power equipment for example sold there isn't a good idea.

Another thing hurting sales is their elimination of Layaway. Walmarts were originally built to target blue collar workers and lower income customers. Layaway is a great way to purchase an item to avoid credit debt. Rather than charge a small fee Walmart instead partnered with a credit card company. Lay away was replaced with store credit cards.

In their clothing department it is chaos and unorganized mayhem in some stores. There used to be notable easy to recognize sections for mens and boys clothing and womens and girls clothing. Now you have to read the tags closely and understand their coding system. It is so dysfunctional not even the workers can often tell what's what.

Behind all of this is the micromanaging of stores from Bentonville. The managers for the most part are keepers of the keys for every little register boo boo. They have very little say or control over inventory or location of even the items paced in boxes about in the aisles. All of that is decided by Bentonville. I've also figured the what I refer to as backward layout Walmarts are the worse for ease of finding items. These are the stores where the food section is on the right hand side. These are also the ones with the most dysfunctional clothing sections.P>

Walmart Corp management in the past two decades has distanced itself from the consumers. As recent as 15 years ago you could write a letter to any VP in charge of certain aspects and they themselves handled it or their office contacted you. Today you make any complaint to corp and it gets automatically referred back to the local store to an associate who can not resolve Zilch. I know this is true. Years ago I wrote a letter to the VP in charge of Loss Prevention over their highly annoying high pitched alarm system each time someone entered or left electronics. I did get a call from the VP and the alarms were removed.

I've learned Walmart many times is not the low price store. I've bought everything from soft drinks to paper towels, to meat, else where cheaper most of the time. By elsewhere I mean the grocery store and they will empty the shopping cart at the checkout, bag it up, and offer to help take it out for me. Their lines move faster as well.

I did not mean that at all, and I don't know from whence that was misconstrued. Now you're just making stuff up, which is unfortunate.

People are having to get creative to survive in this economy. Coupons are always in my purse, just in case I need them. Still, there are foodstuffs I refuse to buy at Walmart: milk, ground beef and other fresh meats and seasonal fresh produce. Milk because the local Braum’s has a gallon of milk at $2.79/gallon, super fresh and delicious. Ground beef and other fresh meat because a Walmart employee my family knows warned us NOT to buy the meat at Walmart. Wouldn’t say why, just not to buy it. Fresh seasonal produce because it’s cheaper and better quality at an upscale grocery I drive by in the way to work. For DFW area Freepers, Central Market is a great place for in season produce.

It sure looked like you were trying to imply that Walmart meat was union, I am really sure that you were giving the impression that Krogers is not a union store.

The main thing is that Walmart is not union and you choose to avoid them, but your chosen store is union.

Ditto on the Wallyworld meat and produce. Randall’s produce has actually improved greatly over the year to the point I like theirs better than HEB/Central Market. I like HEB/Central Market and Whole Foods meat the best, for now.

I don't buy their meats. I was in the store very late one night and saw them restocking from Tyson Meats boxes this included ground beef. All of Walmart's meat is packaged off site and shipped in. Or at least no Walmarts in my area do their own butchering.

Dont attack me because there is a following for this sort of stuff. All I said is that this fosters a downmarket attitide towards Walmart. I have no idea whether these site owners are leftists. I could not find any evidence that they are not. Most of the site is filled BTW with blacks.

cva66snipe is a long time anti-Walmart crusader, who likes to sound sincere and spontaneous.

He has been putting out this casual personal anecdote for almost SEVEN years here at freerepublic.

Oh Troll, Troll, Troll your boat gently down the stream. Like flies on crap you run your trap saying not a thing. What took you so long dirtbag? Everyone who has had any critism toward Walamart of any kind you have personally attacked making unfounded accusations. Go slither away back under your rock slimeball.

Yep, troll is appropiate, here is an example of that little sincere sounding tale you have been spreading for almost 7 years during your more than decades old crusade against Walmart.

“” You might wanna go a step further. I stopped buying any meat there when I was watching them stock the beef section late one night in cut meats. Does the name Tyson mean anything to you? Thats what was on the boxes they took the meat out of. No more meat from Wally World and no more Sams Choice or Great Value items for me either until they start putting nation of origin on their labels.

Good work, man! So you’ve been going there to Walmart late every night since 2007 to watch them stock meat? The proletariat thanks you for your sacrifice!

Heck, the Walmart in Bradenton, FL has a separate display case FULL of AR-type rifles in addition to the one with hunting guns.
