Skip to comments.Downton Abbey, could we have a thread where somebody would explain what is going on?

I am a fan, but I cant catch all of it (kids and cooking and so forth).
Is there a place where we could "catch up" with the goings on?
Like who is messing who up?
Maybe on FR?
Thanks in advance, Jeff.
You’ve just started the thread.
I’m going to be paying attention, but Dalton Abbey has a lot of fans here.
maybe this can help?
Did I misspell this?
Lots of little...and big...story lines happening simultaneously.Perhaps you can borrow the DVDs from your local library.
Netflix. Get the first season and watch them all. Then get the second season.
No, I did, I’m very busy multi-tasking.
I think Hulu has the second season, while Netflix has the first. Then your cable On-Demand should have the current season.
One year later, and Mary is with child!
My daughter sent me this link to watch season 3 online. I did a marathon session:
Will have to click past some adpages, though.
Warning: I run a linux system. It will help to have a good flash player installed (go to mozilla.org to install Firefox -free- if not), and I am not aware of any malware or virus's due to the nature of My system, so you are warned.
Feedback is welcome.
Yes, thanks. Not my cup of...uh...tea. :^)
I’m doing just that with Justified. SEASON ONE AND TWO from the library, season three renting on Amazon. I’M recording current season four.
New way to watch.
Thank you, thank you, thank you (and your daughter). That website also has seasons 1 and 2 available, many episodes of which I missed. My own marathon session will commence as soon as I pop over to the store for some snacks and have watched tonight’s The Walking Dead.
Oh, this thread is about a TV show. I was baffled.
She definitely looks like she has been downtown a few times
A lot of things are happening simultaneously. It really starts somewhere in the 1910’s prior to the Titanic. I bout the first two series and they’re now on series three. It’d be worth your while to buy series one and two from like Amazon and watch them. I’ll be buying the next series when it comes out. It’s a great period piece, nicely done. Perfect in every detail.
Thanks so much for posting the link.
The deer deserve a clean shot...
That’s what I got out of it. :-P
Still though, I’n addicted.... I just LOVE Maggie Smith.
Regarding Lord Grantham being oh so politically correct about a certain employee by the name of Thomas?
I like John Bates.I’m glad he’s getting out of prison. I like the way Mr. Carson runs the place.
Count me as one of the millions of ardent fans of Downton Abbey." Light years beyond a drawing room soap opera, this finely lensed and brilliantly written and acted drama fashions such a rich tapestry of human interaction as to stagger and awe this happy viewer.
I watch it like a rabid football fan, aching for my favorites to move the heart forward; and booing the villains interceptions, fumble recoveries and scores.
In "Downton Abbey" love is the prize and avarice the opponent. And when the yearning yields past pretense and love inevitably shines through, as it does even within this stilted, formal and pre-patterned hierarchy ... its absolute magic.
And startling so, without the usual cable compliment of car crashes, shootouts, stabbings and titty bars. What "Downton Abbey" does have is an anachronistic quality that is so sorely lacking in almost all productions on television or movie theaters as to render it a precious gem beyond value. That quality is "sweetness."
Easy to understand...
Fiddler on a Roof, set imprecisely and post WWI England.
Don’t forget Abby Normal.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Would you mind telling me, who’s brain I did put in?
Igor: And, you won’t be angry?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I will not be angry.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Abby-someone. Abby who?
Have they played the Christmas Special in the US yet?
Downton Abbey is outstanding but, except for issues of a technical/cinematic nature (thanks to a much higher budget),cannot hold a candle to Upstairs/Downstairs.I must say that Maggie Smith is the shining star of the series.
They have played to the end of Season 3 that got people in such an uproar in England before Christmas.
For those that don’t know I won’t spoil it.
My response was the same as those in England.
OH NO...NOT (insert name here)
Oh, yes. Eggs-actly. Broken eggs. You’re not going to like the ending of this season. They do so love to shake us up. One in; one out. Say no more.
OmG they killed Kenny
Watched the first epsisode of Season 1 on Netflix last night. About snoozed. Does it get any better?
I was expecting a lot more going on at the end. Joy and contentment does not make for interesting drama; there should have been a lot more left up in the air and threatening the future of these characters.
Really, what could they do? They CAN’T get rid of Thomas!
I heard the show is moving to SpikeTV. Here's a preview.
The family bull goose—captain on ‘Titanic’ and King Theoden on ‘Lord of the Rings’ right? He’s a survivor all right.
I still think Bates did it......
I stopped watching it last week...when they made sodomy a virtue.
Once you start you will get hooked. As for the story line, it is a lot like the real owners, so whether you agree with the history or not, the plot and development of characters throughout the years 1912 or so through the 30s, its riviting and has a bit of history. Maggie Smith is fabulous.
I dont know why you would turn it off. It’s a story line and people deal with homosexuality in many ways. Lord Grantham did his best to deal fairly with people of every position. You were wrong in your assessment and I think if you watched you would find this out. If you wanted the man flogged, well that is not going to happen because we dont do that.
PBS is coming out with very good alternatives to today reality garbage:
The Midwives The Music Score is beautiful. If you are a Pandora listener, you will love listening to Downton Abbey Suite.
Wait a minute. I thought season 3 of Justified had just begun? I still need to see the last 2 episodes of season 2 but had to return them to the library and now I’m at least a month away from checking it out again.
Ha! Ha! Poor Kenny. Wouldn’t it be something if he’s back next season as if nothing happened at all? Then they could kill him off again!
If Bates didn’t do it, he should have. He does seem to have a dark side.
Who shot JR?
“when they made sodomy a virtue”
It seemed out of place. Historically inaccurate, but for the Lord’s comment about what happened at his boys’ school on a regular basis. I hardly believe that the Brits were THAT tolerant.
