Leading Geneticist: Human Intelligence is Slowly Declining (OPE alert)
Natural Society ^

Posted on 02/18/2013 6:13:51 AM PST by Perdogg

Would you be surprised to hear that the human race is slowly becoming dumber, and dumber? Despite our advancements over the last tens or even hundreds of years, some ‘experts’ believe that humans are losing cognitive capabilities and becoming more emotionally unstable. One Stanford University researcher and geneticist, Dr. Gerald Crabtree, believes that our intellectual decline as a race has much to do with adverse genetic mutations. But there is more to it than that.

Well then, only government officials, government workers, and academics should be allowed to have children. I suppose.

With Obama having been re-elected to a second term and seeing the popularity of shows like “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and “Housewives of xyz,” who could possibly disagree with this assessment of the American public?

My husband and I often lament that we are an island of wisdom in a sea of stupidity.

Is this because there are more stupid people per capita, or because these days, they are more likely to leave a mark? Consider that earlier, less intelligent people would have their writings or other records kept. We are more likely to find the letters of Thomas Jefferson than the ramblings of Willie, the village idiot. Today, as evidenced by the postings on various websites, idiots are now just as communicative, if not more, than their smarter counterparts.

“I would wager that if an average citizen from Athens of 1000 BC were to appear suddenly among us, he or she would be among the brightest and most intellectually alive of our colleagues and companions, with a good memory, a broad range of ideas, and a clear-sighted view of important issues. Furthermore, I would guess that he or she would be among the most emotionally stable of our friends and colleagues,” the geneticist began his article in the scientific journal Trends in Genetics.

Welfare countries have simply created government funded breeding programs for the least qualified people to have children, while those most qualified are tax slaves and unable to afford kids. This has done more to instigate the decline than any other single variable. This is simply my own observation formulated a decade or more ago.

Not one of the reasons listed suggests that it could be our educational system...the most obvious place to begin looking. Definitely a lack of intelligence on the part of those doing the study, I’d say.

Well, I read the article. It really is a pathetic piece. The only rational part was the first section containing quotes from a genuine genetics scientist, then followed by two other sections of gibberish injected by the lay reporter. One of his cited sources was the “Rawstory,” a left wing lunatic rag promoting socialism, homosexuals, and other assorted perverts—truly a raw sewage journal. It was simply the old bait and switch article constructed by a reporter with a political agenda and little understanding of true science.

How can anybody draw any conclusions about intelligence levels when the intelligence hasn’t been allowed to develop with the indoctrination which the liberal school systems have imposed on the children during their most impressionable years, from head-start all the way through college?

Also, when people learn or decide to become dependent, their brains don’t get or need to be exercised or used as much as someone who needs to be out there in the workplace, making decisions day in and day out. What you don’t use you lose, and the brain needs “brain food”, or knowledge and daily challenges, in order to develop and remain active.

I OWN that movie as an example of where our society actually is. The movie is making the point by going over the top.

It’s real. We really are living in Idiocracy. That the lunacy is propped up as reasonalbe is probably what grates on me the most.

One example: I dumped TV in 1997. When I am exposed to “local” news now in any city, they talk to me like I’m in the sixth grade. Maybe the fifth...

This will leave a mark.

It is instructive to read the letters of a Civil War soldier and hold them in comparison to the writings of the average American today. The infantry privates of that era, educated in simple one room schoolhouses on a diet of The Bible, Shakespeare, Coleridge, Keats and Sir Walter Scott displayed a degree of literacy which surpasses the vast majority of scribblings, tweets, and blogs offered up by today's typical college grad - myself, especially, included.

IQ (intelligence) is for the most part inherited and not equally distributed among human races.

Well, that would be unfair, according to Obama and the democrats, therefore, to make things more equal, Obama might propose punishing those with the brighter prospects by forcing them to work harder and produce more, in order to give to the "less advantaged".

The law of God, the law of nature is survival of the fittest. Now we have a nanny state taking care of those who would not survive without subsidizing etc. Recently I heard someone say something like “You can’t fix stupid. Though take the obvious warning labels away and stupid will fix itself by process of elimination. heehee”

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. had a decent story called Harrison Bergeron. It’s a dystopic future story where they “handicap” people to make everyone equal.

The article fails to discuss the most obvious reasons for the very clear decline in observable intelligence.

Over the past 75 years in America, and perhaps even longer in other lands, we have been subsidizing the reproduction of the least cerebral, while taxing the more intelligent to a point where they have far fewer children. We have also, since 1965, encouraged the immigration of a less skilled, less cerebral segment of the outside world, than we drew earlier.

Thus there has been a measured fall in school achievement levels, since the early 1900s. Thus there has also been a considerable "dumbing down" in our observed levels of political discourse. Contrast the Phd. thesis level of public political addresses in the 1840s, with the moronic 30 second sound-bite today. The public with little formal education, followed the oratory of Webster, Clay & Calhoun; while college graduates today, chant in unison, like Nazi robots at the slogans of an Obama!

The reporter's commentary that follows the common sense--so far as it goes--quotes from the geneticist, in the balance of the featured article, is itself an indication of the dumbing down of contemporary "analysis."
