MILWAUKEE (AP) — There’s a 15-year-old Florida girl who didn’t really know much about Charlie Sheen before this week – but does now.
The actor wired $10,000 to Teagan Marti and her family on Thursday for a therapy dog to help in her rehabilitation from injuries sustained when she plummeted 100 feet from a Wisconsin amusement park ride in 2010.
Teagan Marti suffered brain, spine, pelvis and internal injuries in July 2010 when nets and air bags that were supposed to catch riders on a free-fall ride were not raised. She had convinced her family to make the trip from Florida to Extreme World in Wisconsin Dells after seeing the amusement park’s Terminal Velocity ride on the Travel Channel.
She was hospitalized in Wisconsin and Florida for three months. She initially had no use of her arms or legs but through physical therapy is able to walk again with a walker.
Teagan Marti’s mother, Julie Marti, said they are financially in trouble from the medical bills and her recent divorce. Their house is being foreclosed upon and insurance isn’t covering physical therapy anymore, she said. She had no idea how they would pay for the English Golden Retriever puppy.

OK, I’ll prepare to be flamed.
1. I wonder what went out first, the wired funds or the announcement to the press. Charlie is still a first class slime ball.
2. What was the award settlement? How much did the lawyer take for an easy, open and shut liability case?
3. What has happened to the settlement funds that the family did receive? Almost certainly a structured settlement, so did they call “I want my money now” for a lump sum?
Did they determine it was her fault for falling out or something? I would think the amusement park would be liable otherwise.
Good news for the girl. Perhaps Sheen isn’t a total douche bag after all.

I’d say that it was not her fault.
That statement makes me think that the ride operators should be paying for or have paid for this already.

IIRC, the family did settle out of court with the “attraction”— I’ll call it that because all it really was was a small operation with just a few “rides.” There are all types of “attractions” around the Dells.
Anyway, when this first happened, the news was that the place was tanking financially as it was. I think there had already been foreclosure proceedings in place on the property at the time, so it is doubtful that the Marti’s got anything near what they should have for the magnitude of the liability. I don’t know because the settlement amount was confidential.

Thanks for the information.
I presume that such an operation would have a good deal of liability coverage, regardless of their underlying financials. But insurance isn’t a given.
Attaboy Charlie!
Charlie will appear on TV next week saying, or definitely implying that, since he paid $10K for some kid’s therapy dog, everyone should be equally as generous, relatively speaking. And if they aren’t, they’re a selfish slimeball. Isn’t that how Hollywood always works? An actor makes a very public “charitable” contribution to someone or something, then grandstands all year about it.
Your #2 and 3 are excellent questions. Your #1 may be true but irrelevant to the girl. He donated $10,000 more than you and I combined, I would presume.
Eh. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. We’ll see.
Actually I’m not impressed with the amount. I’m glad she got the money, but I remain unimpressed with Charlie’s motivation. Johnny Carson did this sort of thing all the time and kept it to himself. His friends didn’t say a word until after he passed away, as he preferred to act anonymously.
Charlie has already gotten what he paid for, he doesn’t need my adoration.
