NEW YORK, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A Whole Foods store in New York took down a sign that used an image of President Barack Obama to promote a sale on chicken.
The Upper West Side store pulled the advertisement and apologized for any offense caused by the sign after customers complained, WNBC-TV, New York, reported Friday.
The sign, created by a store artist, was removed "once it was brought to our attention by a shopper that it may be perceived as offensive," a Whole Foods spokesman said.
"There was no disrespect meant at all," the spokesman said.
Customers were split on whether there were racist connotations to the sign.
"There are certain things that have been used to put down black people," Woody Henderson told WNBC.
"Even if he's not the president, you're going to have an African-American promoting the sale of chicken? They can do better than that," Jason Nunez said.
However, some said they did not see the sign as offensive.
"Obviously it looks like the president but I don't think it's racist," Joseph Joshua said to the television station.
That's a good price.
Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
I consider a picture of a fresh, moist t*rd offensive.

I would be offended that the store thought Obama’s picture would help sell a product that’s not toilet paper
I assume they also scrubbed their watermelon ad that used the same image.
Had a black friend who once confided that he loved both fried chicken and watermelon, but would be damned if he’d eat them in public because of the old stereotype.
How dare they. That's almost as bad as using a Mexican to sell tacos or burritos.
What's next? Using Black folk to sell BBQ?
So, a picture of a guy who is 1/8 black eating chicken is racist? I think that Colonel Sanders is more black than Obozo. Obozo only says he black because it’s to his political advantage. If anyone ever tries to tell you that he would have been elected if he was perceived to be white, you know they are overdosing on the Kool Aid! If it was more advantageous to be white he would be screaming that he is white. He is full of crap!!
Why, it’s just like looking at Michael Jordan......if he didn’t know how to shoot a basketball. This guy is a total phony. He was supposed to be a basketball player? Look at where his right hand is.
Probably thought Obama did such a good job selling guns, and ammo that he’d really do a number selling chicken.
I didn’t know there was a stereotype about 1/2 Arabs and chicken.
