The real reason the Pope is punching out _ a disposable penis?
GLOBE AND MAIL ^ | 2-22-2013 | TABATHA SOUTHEY

The Pope cited his “incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me” in “today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes.” This was the same week the producers of Maker’s Mark announced they were lowering the alcohol content of their bourbon: Here was the leader of the Catholic church bemoaning his inability to adapt to a changing world. Has everyone forgotten their brand? Since when did the Catholic church agonize over its inability to respond to change? Not responding to change is what the church does best.

But then, on the heels of the Pope’s announcement another story broke, almost as though he’d sought to get in front of it –a story I like to believe is more likely to explain his hasty retirement: A team of Japanese scientists has announced the discovery of a sea slug that has a disposable penis.

Sea slugs are hermaphrodites. As human knowledge grows, God’s occasional whimsicality with sex organs is something the church has had to confront. An animal with both sets raises questions for a church so particular about gender roles. And given that Pope Benedict XVI’s predecessor, John Paul II, took the position that animals have souls, the soul of a sea slug in a body possessed of two sets of sex organs might have been a worry to the pontiff.

Good Grief!!! If you had written this, I’m sure you’d’ve been zotted before the page reloaded! I can’t fathom that The Globe and Mail has so horribly lost any respectability. I’m pretty sure the author thinks she’s being funny, but I’m quite confident even Margaret Cho wouldn’t laugh.

Here go the tin foil hats again ...

Even as a non-Catholic, I find this disgusting.

This is a stupid article attempting to be funny by attacking the teachings of Jesus Christ and Pope Benedict's resignation.

I wasn't funny.

the Catholic Church is not a public instutition.....no one is forced to believe or attend services....IOWS...its none of this idiots' business...

the Catholic church does not need to "change" with the disgraceful world culture...

truth is truth, and it may not be pleasant, and it may not be easy, but its the truth...

besides, the minute the church "changes" for example, to accept homo marriage, is when the new change required will be polyandy or polygamy, or fathers marrying dtrs and brothers marrying sisters.....

The Toronto Globe & Mail: bills itself as, "Canada's Newspaper"; fancies itself as a combination of The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, Canadian style. There is a reason this rag is known as the Grope & Flail! One thing that unites most Canadians is a dislike of Toronto, the self described 'centre of the universe'. The Grope & Flail is yet another reason to dislike Tranna!

Not responding to change is what the church does best.

When human nature changes, that will be a change the Church considers worthy responding to.

Disposable penises? That means the sea slugs don’t need to ask their government for free condoms. And if they’re hermaphrodites, just tell
‘em to go screw themselves.

Hard to believe a “professional” writer could actually compose such a stupid and inane article AND have it published, yet!

I heard a CBS news break (radio) which basically said he resigned because of the gay blackmail scandal. It was disturbing bias, but what else is new?

All living things have souls. They just don’t have “rational souls” as we do. The word for soul in Latin is anima - hence, the word “animal”. In other words, everytime you use the word “animal” you’re acknowledging that they have souls.

I’m not even a Catholic and I find this absolutely cringeworthy and totally uncalled for. And then again, the FR Religion board has daily anti-RCC and anti-Mormon threads, so you’re in good company.
