This whole “Amish” thing got started because news outlets didn’t mention the races of criminals unless they were White, so somebody hit on the idea of asking “Amish?” when stories like that came up. Now it’s just a way morons have of saying “Black.” I guess it’s confusing when used in reference to central Pennsylvania where there really are Amish people. Another reason to drop the whole stupid, stale joke.
There are actually quite a few Amish that live within a few tens of miles of me.
When I saw her picture, the joke didn’t click. I was aware of the “Amish” appelation here on FR.
