Dicky Betts, however is still playing a solo from his 1978 tour.

Thanks for the post, man.
I'm an Allman Brothers Band junkie since '72 (I was 14 - growing up in Florida - there was the Allmans, and then there was everybody else).

Didn’t they do that “Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man” song? I can remember as a kid air-guitaring to the lead guitar solo in that song like crazy! That’s back when songs were 10 minutes long.. LOL

When you think about it, we were lucky. The bands we listened to could actually play instruments. Imagine that? Led Zeppelin was historical. Southern rock bands were huge back then too.

Better check your rock history — LS first album was released in 1973, AB released its first in 1969. AB’s Live at the Fillmore East (3rd album) in 1971 was a monster hit and still considered one of the top albums of all time, live or studio. Duane Allman’s death in Oct 1971 (motorcycle, Macon GA) left most wondering just how big the ABs would have been in the 1970s and on....

Amen to that. I have his “Essential” collection CD. Robin Trower is an extremely underrated blues-rock guitarist. Why should Jimi and Stevie Ray get all the recognition and airplay? Gary Moore also did some great blues-rock stuff in the 90s that gets little recognition.

Meh. Both of them were just swimming in CCR’s wake.

I thought Dickey Betts would go first.

Saw Robin Trower at La Zona Rosa in Austin a few years ago.

Looked terrible.

Sounded great.

He's in my top 5.

You are certainly correct! Oh what the years do to water down the memories. I went into a funk over the loss of Duane. What was it about 12 months later, Butch Trucks lost his life on a bike too?

Butch Trucks is still alive. You may be thinking of Berry Oakley who died from a motorcycle accident about 12 months after Duane.

Yes it was, about 3 blocks away from where Duane died.

I used to go to Grant’s Lounge in “downtown” Macon back in the day, and could often see different members of the group jamming there. I was stationed at Warner Robins AFB at the time. Phil Walden and Capricorn Records were in their hey-day, having signed quite a few of the southern-rock bands.
