I’d say any kind of road kill would be well served to these folks. Maybe some armadillo or alligator.

If it's good enough for me, it's good enough for them. Ridiculous.

But it's okay to serve "dog food" aka pink slime to our kids.

Deer meat was good enough for our ancestors here in America as they struggled to build a country but it’s not good enough for our Homeless population.

As a working person, YOU can BUY and eat food that its freshness is expiring.

But don't you dare GIVE that same food to a welfare recipient. That would be degrading.

Simple. Have one of the shelter residents get a social services attorney to sue the health dept for attempted murder via starvation.

The bad PR from the suit will get the HD to quickly change their policies.

When I worked at a grocery store in the early ‘70’s we put the good but out of date food on the dock beside the dumpster. Even though nobody was visible, it was usually gone within the hour. Farmers came by and loaded their trucks and fed it to the pigs.

We probably had more waste then because now computer control has matched deliveries to sales and date codes are more readable and stores enforce rotation better today. But waste still must be fairly high if only because of the incredible volumes of food shipped daily.

Sometime in the ‘80’s somebody sued for allegedly getting sick from eating out of a dumpster. After that locks were installed. Also, drunks would crawl into dumpsters, go to sleep and get crushed when the truck emptied it into the crusher.

The net result is that literally tons of usable but out of date food is destroyed every day.

Ground sirloin, filet mignon and porterhouse steaks are preferred...

We’ve been donating venison and feral hogs for years and they’ll take everything we give them. In TX they would have been fined for destroying the meat due to our game laws.

“Beltway” ignorance....”we can’t serve meat that is less fat, less cholesterol because it hasn’t been pumped full of pink slime!” Besides...it was probably shot with a gun.

When I lived in northern Michigan I went out with a crew led by the DNR and the local Chippewa to collect salmon that were freshly dead or dying after they spawned. They gave us a basic idea of what to look for (bright red gills and no obvious rot) and gave them a quick inspection themselves.

We took truckloads out for the poor. That was my kind of charity. Spending the day in the woods wading in the river.
