(Newser) – A state trooper-turned-lawmaker in Georgia intends to make it illegal for slow drivers to dawdle in the left lane, reports the Huffington Post. His proposed bill would require drivers to move to the right if they're going below the speed limit in the passing lane and cars are behind them. It strengthens a current law on the books and makes it clear that scofflaws face a fine for a moving violation. "I always say it's the manners your momma should have taught you," state legislator Bill Hitchens tells MyFox Atlanta. "If someone pulls up behind you, you move to the right and let them by." The measure will curb accidents and road rage incidents, he adds.
“Keep Right Except to Pass” is a law common in many states.
Pretty sure it’s only law when it’s posted. Over the last few years it has gotten increasingly irritating though that no one gets out of the way anymore. Need to pass it state-wide as a common rule of the road rather than only when it’s posted. Of course, then they’d also have to enforce it which they’re not very good at either.
I think the high-speed lane slowpokes can be eliminated by one simple Law: Mini-vans and Buicks in curb lane only.....
What bugs me the most is side-by-siders. There are some streets near my house that mostly elderly people drive on, and they love to drive side-by-side and are not going the speed limit. I want to pull my hair out of my head, and try to remember that this could have been my late mother and father behind the wheel, and try to be patient, but it is hard. Truckers used to do that on the I-10 when we would be driving long distances, and they didn’t care about the long lines of cars behind them. Finally, La. passed a law against that, and it did seem to help.
There have been some real flame wars here on this topic, as some freepers clinch themselves tightly and proclaim their right to get into that passing lane and impose order on the universe by doing the exact speed limit, or even less.

You need to add all Toyotas, Hondas, and Volvos to that list. Electric cars of any type should be limited to urban surface roads too.
It's been my experience that the VAST MAJORITY of the time when there is a wagon-train of vehicles stacked up in a lane, at the head of the line will be a mini-van or Buick on Cruise-Control and/or a driver with a death-grip on the steering wheel driving with no cares of the others behind them.....
Self-appointed state troopers.
Probably luvs them some red-light cams, too.
As a Georgian let me assure everyone that if you are in the left lane of any interstate and doing less than 75MPH you will be harassed to the point of being run off the road back into the the right lane. The Libertarian in me says we don’t need any more laws to micro manage driving.
I found Texas most annoying. Tex, in his “rig” (a simple pickup), would not move over. This was the norm, and not the exception. Very infuriating! When we moved to Ohio, it was truly a breath of fresh air, as drivers moved over as the norm.
