A Florida dog didn't quite live up to his species' reputation as man's best friend, accidentally shooting his owner in the leg with a .380 pistol on a car ride, Highlands Today reported Monday.
Gregory Dale Lanier, 35, of Sebring, Fla., didn't know the gun resting on the floor of his truck was loaded until his dog accidentally (we can only assume) kicked it and it fired a bullet into Lanier's leg.
"Lanier said he heard boom, saw smoke and felt a burning in his leg," Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr said.
Police did not arrest the dog.
This isn't the first time a dog has fired a weapon at their owner. In 2011, a yellow Labrador from Utah jumped onto a 12-gauge shotgun and fired 27 pellets into his owner's buttocks.
Articles like this are why I sometimes think the only gun control laws should be an IQ test. How can you NOT know a gun on the floor of your truck is loaded? Why would you leave a gun there? As Bugs Bunny would say; “What a maroon!”
Did the dog pass a background check
He had papers.
Wouldn’t you like to see the same dog, point, shoot, and retrieve a duck?
Just watch, Feinstein will use this and say this is why dogs can’t own guns..when I read the story first thing I thought of was “Good boy” the guy deserved it for being an idiot
So the AKC is now doing criminal background checks???
“didn’t know the gun was loaded” is no excuse.
Finally, the dogs are starting to shoot back.
Gun rights for dogs!
You want a background check - we will send you a stool sample.
any other state I might believe the poor guy’s story, in Fla though, alcohol or weed was probably involved. On the other hand Fla does have that “stand your ground law”, I wonder...
So are you saying that the dog was drunk and/or stoned?
I like the story of the Lab peppering his human’s buttocks with bird-shot!
labs can be very mischievous.
No, they told it to come out with its paws up. When the dog did not comply, they shot it dead.
(BTW, my BS meter is pegged by the account of the shootee.)
