Winds Cover House With Tumbleweeds
UPI ^ | Feb. 26, 2013

Posted on 02/28/2013 10:34:51 AM PST by nickcarraway

A Texas man said one of the more unusual consequences of this week's windstorms was his house being covered in tumbleweeds.

Josh Pitman of Midland said Monday's winds caused the tumbleweeds to first gather on the left side of his home and they soon spread to his roof and wrapped around the house, KBMT-TV, Beaumont, reported Tuesday.

"I didn't even know this many tumbleweeds existed," Pitman said.

Pitman said he spent most of an afternoon clearing the tumbleweeds from one side of his house and putting them in a ditch behind his home.

"I called the fire department and they said that since it was on my yard, it was considered yard waste and that I had to take care of it, they or the city wouldn't be able to do anything. So I figured, I got to do what I got to do," Pitman said.

Pitman said he expects the cleanup to take until the end of the week.

You expect the fire department to do yard work? How much should they charge?

They were also piled up against the overpass railing on my drive to work today, too. Wish I could have gotten a picture, bbut I would have been run over by the drivers in a big hurry to get to work! LOL!

Are tumbleweeds combustible?

Maybe we need a federal program to process them into power plant fuel....

I’m sure with a couple hundred million dollars in loans somebody could work it out.

Save on Crafts carries wired LED “drop” type lights called “Fairy Lights” that don’t produce heat & work great. A little tricky to thread them though. (These things would be great perimeter control if it’s too cool for Bougainvillea. They’re vicious. Nature’s razor wire.)

Wish I’d seen this 3 months ago.

VERY combustible when dry, but it's a quick fire and then *poof*...they're gone. I don't think there IS a marketable product for them.

A friend said she spray painted some stacked up ones for a funky Christmas tree, but the stickers nearly ate her hands up when she was working with them. Not sure I'd put lights on them...you might have that combustion up close and personal!

Not hers....but you get the drift (get it? drift? LOL! *ahem*)

Nothing new. We had tumbleweed problems every spring when we lived in SE New Mexico.

The local radio stations would often broadcast which streets were closed due to tumbleweed blockages.

Blame the Russians! Tumbleweed seeds came to the US in flax seed imported by Russian immigrants.

HAHAHAA, you guys are TOO FUNNY! LMAO!

No more booms today....Oh, I forgot to mention, BO turned our electricity off for 1.5 hours yesterday too. No storms, nothing, but no power. I personally think it’s because we live in the Christian conservative gun-toting part of town.../luv, your conspiracy-minded friend

Great pic.
I still think the tumbleweed energy program makes as much sense as these other federal boondoggles.
You just need a prominent Democrat to be the beneficiary of most of the $400 million dollar loans and you’re on the way....

Organic, free range, grass fed, & antibiotic-free tumbleweeds...my Whole Foods Market hasn't received their shipment yet...it's probably too early in the season to look for them yet.
