As the separation of the Big East Conference moved toward a conclusion, one question was hanging over the negotiations.

Who owns the iconic name?

Apparently, the answer is the seven departing Catholic schools. An ESPN.com report Thursday night said the seven schools will start their own league next season and will keep the Big East name. Big East commissioner Mike Aresco insisted as recently as last week that he hoped to retain the name, citing three decades and the name's attachment to the Bowl Championship Series level of football.

"Welcome to Big East 2.0."

It used to be called the MAC. Look for the ACC to try to get in on the Garden action. I think they want to move their basketball championship out of North Cackalackey and into the Garden. The only teams that the people in New York care about in the basketball only league is St. Johns and Georgetown. They'll want to see Syracuse, Duke and North Carolina up there.

I know next to nothing about sports other than it is physical, good for kids, especially boys, and it has a politics all its own.

reading the headline for some reason flashed a scene from "Field Of Dreams" where good ol' folks are in a sand lot type bleacher watching a baseball game that for all practical purposes was a pick-up game between two neighborhoods.

There is something magically nostalgiac about what America used to be and though I know nothing of sports, it seems every thread in our fabric is frayed, worn and torn.

Sadly, I can't turn back the clock nor upload into my children my memories and thoughts.

I'm caught between fighting and quitting ..

The fight is so hopeless (we will never regain what we had ... never), and quitting appears to be at least, restful.

I'm old and falling apart and I haven't been able to develope a hero for my kids.

At sixteen, I was surrounded by hero's ... John Wayne, Hoppalong Cassidy, Rex Trailer, Bob Emery, Mighty Mouse, Superman, Dick Tracy, Good guy/ bad guy movies that had lessons, The Lone Ranger, The Range Rider, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers ...

Where HAVE all the flowers gone ?

I don't know about sports and Big east or Little Ten or whatever ... I just know America is a shell of herself and nothing will bring her back.

You are correct. I suspect the (new) Big East will keep the tourney at MSG. Look for the ACC to move their tourney to the new Barclay's Arena in Brooklyn. It's a beautiful venue for basketball.

Also, with the Big Ten additions of Rutgers and Maryland,d the conference football championship game will probably be moved to MetLife Stadium....giving them a HUGE media footprint

I just hope I'll see UConn in the B1G (big Ten) soon...

Or the ACC...

The new name for the Big East should be called 'Ho Hum...another league'

UConn needs to get out...

Am I reading 'The Boneyard'?? (The Boneyard is the UConn Husky fan page)

Looks like UConn is going to be considered a very good invitee soon to a few conferences.
