When Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch announced in late January that the department would no longer use the .40-caliber Glock pistol that officers have carried since 2002, he didn’t mention any problems with the gun.
Rausch said the replacement gun, a .45-caliber Sig Sauer, had more stopping power than the .40-calibers. Testing among officers also revealed they were more accurate using the Sig Sauer, he said.

A letter from the city to Glock states that triggers were freezing on the guns after they were given to officers and lock pins that hold the 34 parts of the gun together were failing.
I’m not pro or con regarding Glocks. Just posting this for FReeper perusal.

So the weapon allegedly has a high failure-rate, yet no one bothered to inform Glock? LOL
my only problem with Glock - is that they rub a blister on the inside of your middle finger - as it rests under the trigger guard - a day of qualification at the range with no shooting gloves on this happens has compared to medal trigger guards found on S&W or 1911’s - the non-composite lowers. Despite this, we carried them in Iraq under DSS and they performed great in that environment. Sounds like recent manufacturing issues...I’m sure the Republicans will get the blame or could be the sequester!
I like the SIG-Sauer better than the Glock and prefer .45 too. Sounds like a “win-win” to me.
If that's the case, I would have thought that Glock would have then received a "screaming bloody hell" phone call from KPD, telling them about an incredibly serious issue. As far as I can tell, that didn't happen. But since they are now saying "no more public comments". we may never know.
Without commenting on Glocks versus Sigs, what struck me was:
The Police Department is obtaining 225 of Sig Sauer’s .45-caliber P220R pistols, a dozen 1911 Sig Sauer handguns and training for 10 officers as armorers. In exchange, the Police Department is giving $13,500 cash, 630 .40-caliber Glocks, 53 12-gauge shotguns, four .22-caliber rifles, 14 submachine guns, six 37mm launchers, various gun parts and 300,000 rounds of new ammunition.
Quite a trade, 630 Glocks, 14 “submachine guns”, and six grendae launchers,plus cash, to get 225 Sig’s? There’s more to this story . . .

But wait...I thought Glocks were 'PERFECTION"?
I think what probably clinched the deal was the inclusion of the four .22 rifles, LOL.
Facts as reported: One ( 1 ) POlice dept claims they have a problem and switches to another manufacturer. No other dept has reported this problem. POlice chief does not talk about malfunctions. Since there are very large amounts of money involved here, I would just wonder about kick backs.
Given the fact that Sig USA has something less than 28% of the law enforcement market share, Sig ought to pull out of the the gun-grabbing states altogether and use that move as a positive selling point to increase market share in the gun friendly states.
With that said, I have spent a lot of time at the range firing both Glocks and Sigs and I'll take the Springfield XD/XDm over both of them any day based upon performance, reliability, maintenance, and cost.
Why does a civilian police department NEED 14 machine guns?
The rest of the civilian population doesn’t need semi-automatic rifles so why would a civilian police department NEED fully automatic sub-machine guns?

Sig is my fav mfg. and I love mine, will take any Sig over any Glock. All mine are both incredibly reliable and incredibly accurate.
That being said, Glock is a good weapon or so many would not be using them.....
Wilson Combat is the only 1911 I’d swap for my Sig......
Taking one gun over another is no different that if you like blondes or brunetts. Its what suits YOU. I had both glocks and Sigs and both were good weapons. The one tht fit and suited me the best was the one I carried. Simple as that. Never had a problem with any of them.
Note too that the PD went to 45’s versus 40’s. They must not be in the loop with the DHS which is buying all that .40 ammunition for a “just in case we need them” senerio.
Like others, I think there is more to the story.
