This is a story of self control and marksmanship with an itsy bitsy shooter by a woman against a fierce predator.

What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?

While out hiking in Alberta Canada with my boyfriend we were surprised by a huge grizzly bear charging at us from out of no where.

She must have been protecting her cubs because she was extremely aggressive. If I had not had my little Beretta Jetfire with me I would not be here today!

Just one shot to my boyfriend's knee cap was all it took...the bear got him and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace.

It's one of the best pistols in my collection.

Ah yes, another variation on the ‘I just need to run faster than you’ meme. There is actually an old old story of a prospector in Alaska using a .22lr rifle to kill a charging Kodiak. When the bear rose up to snarl, the prospector fired right into the gaping mouth, which evidently was the softest approach to the brainstem. He dropped the bear with one shot. ... It is said that he took two days to stop shaking however.

Too funny. Although I definitely need to have more coffee or something because it took my reading it through twice before I ‘got it’. Then it was even funnier. Thanks for the day brightener.

That idiot democrat in Colorado will likely start screaming any minute the hiker didn’t have the right to shoot that grizzly... that she should’ve “talked” him out of attacking her.

If my memory isn’t failing me, a courtesy ping is in order for bear stories.

No apology needed - kanawa posted a thread many, many moons ago regarding his encounter with a bear. Sorry, I can’t find a link to it.

I’m the one who should apologize. I neglected to remove your name from the “To:” list. I meant to just ping kanawa.

While I appreciate your sarcasm - you do recognize that “idiot” and “democrat” is redundant don’t you?

And to think, Jeff Cooper said the .25 was worthless for defense.

(I have one)

PISTOLERO MAGAZINE (remember them?) took one to Mexico to do real tests. They found the .25 was just fine for killing hogs and was better than throwing rocks at an attacker.
