George Lucas Says Original 'Star Wars' Trio Returning for New Film
It appears the Force is still strong with Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
In an interview posted online Thursday, George Lucas said the trio from the original "Star Wars" trilogy will reprise their iconic roles of Hans Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in the new "Star Wars" film.
Lucas told Bloomberg Businessweek that all three were signed for the new "Episode VII" film in advance of Lucasfilm's $4 billion purchase by Disney.
"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison _ or were pretty much in the final stages of negotiation," Lucas said.
He added: "Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do."
In an interview posted Wednesday with Florida's Palm Beach Illustrated, Fisher said that she'll be coming back as Princess Leia.
Disney's Lucasfilm was coy in response. In a statement, a spokesperson for the company said, "George couldn't say whether they were signed or not and neither can we. As Yoda said, `Always in motion is the future.' Stay tuned."
The Walt Disney Co. is producing a new "Star Wars" trilogy to take place after Lucas' original three space epics. J.J. Abrams is directing the first film. The 70-year-old Ford, the 61-year-old Hamill and the 56-year-old Fisher are expected to play smaller, supporting roles.
A representative for Ford declined to comment. Hamill's representatives didn't immediately return requests for comment.

......I don’t think I want to see OLD, really OLD Han Solo, Princess Leah & Luke Skywalker.
Carrie Fisher is going to be in that bikini from the Jabba scene while Harrison and Mark will be wearing jedi speedos.
They’re going to screw this up big time! The only good thing would be if they were in crowd scenes or something where we could try to find them. But if they actually have close-ups or speaking parts, that’s gonna suck!
I think that with the Empire torn apart and the Jedi Republic being reborn, we could have these three as the background characters to new Jedi, Republic players and have old Han come in at the end of the day as the free acting hero.
You heard this plot line here, first.
That bikini wouldn’t fit on her arm these days.....
I will wait and see before passing judgement.
I think she would be a Margaret Thatcher type of character. Just a hunch.
By the down stream canon they all become political leaders and advisers. I doubt they’ll be doing any adventuring.
Will the Wookie be gray?.........
Star Wars meets Cocoon.
And George Lucas will direct People to their seats in the theater.
Idiots can’t even get Yoda right. It would be “Always in motion, the future is”
I hope Disney looks at The New Jedi series of books and goes down that path. Luke, Leah and Han would be about the right age.
She’s only 56?? I look better than her and I’ve got 10 years on her! But then, I didn’t do the drugs she did either.
No more CGI Yoda... that really sucked. I think models and puppets work much better, much more believable.
Don’t care how old they are, how they have aged, or how they look. JJ Abrams is directing, and there are going to be three more Star Wars movies.
Even numbered Star Trek movies don’t suck
Han shot first
...no greater hive...villainy
JJ Abrams...alias, lost, Star Trek, Fringe (final season..meh), person of interest, revolution...The force is strong in this one”
Gonna need a huge bucket of popcorn, and a diet cherry coke for this one!
Yes, Carrie Fisher will now take on the role of Jabba the Hutt in the new film.
More like Pizza the Hut.
Why did daddy buy mommy a princess lea outfit at disneyworld’s princess boutique?
(for sci fi fans insert Princess Deja Thoris)
Carrie Fisher in a bikini will BE Jabba the Hut
Seriously these 3 senior citizens need to come back as re-engineered droids
Separated at birth indeed...
I think Farscape (and Stargate SG-1, to a lesser extent) prove that.
I wonder if Mark Hamill has learned to act yet.
Over half of the Gazillion dollar budget will be for make-up, the other half for CGI effects.
I love the original far too much to have it spoiled by this.
They must be planing on animating it, ‘cause Hamill and Fisher are in no shape to act. I’m glad they’re in on it, though.
Now if they can just keep Lucas away from the screenplay and get somebody good to write it, like Timothy Zahn or Kevin Anderson.
Now, THAT was funny!
Lots of talk about Fisher’s looks, have you seen Hamill lately, looks like Jabba. Also those who are freaking over the promise of a new film with a bunch of old guys, don’t be. The film is going to have new main characters, and the original trio will just act as guest stars. Kinda like when Obi-wan showed up in Empire, and Jedi.
Hans Solo? Does he get to wear a spiffy uniform this time around?
OMG !! Are you series? That’s Carrie now. ...wow.
“OMG !! Are you series? Thats Carrie now. ...wow.”
Check out the movie “Fanboys” 2009 and closer to how Carrie Fischer looks now. She is on the mend.
Who of today’s stars or upcoming actors would you cast as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa?http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2994648/posts
