Redbox has Atlas Shrugged II coming Tuesday 19th!

The Rebox website says Atlas Shrugged II will be available for rent Tuesday, the 19th! I've already seen it, but I may watch it again. I don't know if I can wait until 2014 to know how it all ends. I think I'm going to have to buy the book. Abridged or Un-abridged? :p

Unabridged! It really isn’t THAT long. Kids polish off Harry Potter Books and they are 1000 pages long, so Atlas Shrugged isn’t that daunting. There is, However a long radio speech towards the end that outlines Ayn’s philosophy of Objectivism. I do not know how they will be handling that in the Part III portion of the movie.

The character development in the Book is much better and deeper than in the movie.

I decided on the unabridged full version audio book so I can listen while in the work jeep. Nothing like dreaming about going Galt while working! Heh!

There really isn’t an abridged version but I have seen Cliff’s Notes (or the like) for the book. Also looking forward to Part III.

It moves along at a pretty fast clip, especially since many of the situations and frustrations in the book echo that which is going on in America NOW. One of the very first scenes in the book, when Dagney is stalled on a train because of a broken signal light (For Which NOBODY will take Responsibility) rings so true today that it actually gave me physical manifestations of anger and frustration.

by using a US proxy server and my Netflix account.

Watched part I and part II a couple weeks ago from on demand. Should NOT have done it so close. Couldn’t get over the differences between the two Dagney’s, Reardons, and Francisco’s. MUCH preferred the actors in the first movie. The Dagney in the 2nd looked like she was tired, and just going through the motions. However, it does go right along with the book, which is refreshing!

I slogged my way through the book last year. I really don't share the enthusiasm many Freepers have for the book. I did find it too long for what it was. I loved the over-all concept, but felt the long-winded speeches from Francisco and Galt were too long to be effective. The sex scenes are ridiculously over the top, and the last third was like a comic book adventure.

I don't have a problem with long books per se; I'm 2/3 of the way through a recent translation of WAR AND PEACE that is 1200 pages long.

I do appreciate and understand your objection to the speeches in Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand even said in an interview that the Book was a vehicle for expressing her philosophy, so, instead of writing a Philosophy Book, she wrote a Novel where the characters spout it! LOL!

The same thing happened in The Fountainhead, but not as much.

I agree that if the speeches were condensed and more “pithy”, Ayn would have gotten many more followers to espouse her cause.

The version of W & P that I am reading is the Pevear/Volokhonsky translation. They are a husband/wife team. She (Volokhonsky) is Russian and help to clarify the uniquely Russian aspects of the novel. They’ve done translations of several of the big Russian novels by Tolsoy, Dostoevsky, et al.
