CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
The Cleveland Division of Police, along with the Division of Fire, EMS and ODOT are currently on the scene of an accident on I-90 westbound between East 152nd Street and East 185th Street.
Police say a dump truck traveling with the trailer raised struck a pedestrian bridge, severely damaging it and causing the trailer to turn over.
Due to the damage to the bridge, I-90 will be closed in both directions for the remainder of the weekend.
Eastbound is being let off the highway at E. 152nd. Your detour is St. Clair to E. 185th where you can re-enter the highway.
Westbound is being let off the highway at E. 185th. Your detour is Nottingham to Lakeshore to E. 152nd where you can re-enter the highway.
Police have asked that all motorists avoid the area if possible. Motorists traveling to the west are encouraged to consider alternate routes such as 271N to 480W. Motorists traveling on I-77 and I-71 are encouraged to use 480 to head east.
See detours in article.
Boss to (former) driver: "Lower bed, drive truck. Repeat that back to me."
I used to ride my bike over that bridge when I was a kid. It had cool spiral ramps at each end.
Now it be DAID!
I-90 possibly closed until Monday morning. Lots of pics in slice show. Here's a good one from another source.
Uh, slide show.
I've forgotten to swith my hydraulic pump off a couple of times, but not lower the bed?
Damn ... you can't drive that thing farther n' two feet without feeling SOMEthing !
I suspect an intentional act ... you just don't lose a latch hook or something .... the trailer is hydraulically lifted by an out of the way switch (usually) sometimes painfully far enough away from a sitting position.
500-ton crane coming in to lower the bridge. Then they’ll have to cut the thing up and haul it off.
I’d love to watch that.
Video gone.
Detour through E Cleveland and you'd better be packin' heat...
Years ago some punks dropped a cinder block off a pedestrian bridge in Cleveland and killed some poor lady driving on the freeway. Is that the same bridge, do you know?
I was going to ask if that was far enough out that you didn't need an armored car. 'Spect that answers my question.
People won’t have to go that far south unless they get lost.
The area around the bridge isn’t TOO bad. The Lake Shore Blvd north route is pretty good. E. 152nd and St. Clair to the south is lots iffier. The hood gone be waitin fo folks at night. Let’s say, don’t go pickin up hitch-hikers. ;-)
Only bet for out-of-state folks passing through is to STAY on the Interstates and go the long way around the city by using I-271 and I-480 or I-77 or 71 and I-480.
Don’t get off and get lost on the city streets at night. Bring your GPS. (Guns Plus Stuff).
DON’T go through E. Cleveland. You are just as likely to be mugged and shot by a politician as you are by a banger.
I cringe whenever thinking about the Mistake on the Lake.
That was a good area back then, but I don’t remember where the concrete killing happened. That was horrible. The poor woman got it right in the face. I think her husband was driving. I can’t imagine what that must have been like for him.
Just saw this today in the Akron area:
http://fox8.com/2013/02/12/kids-charged-after-throwing-concrete-at-cars/
One piece was 18” across and weighed 50 pounds. And they didn’t charge them with attempted murder!
“All three face charges of vehicular vandalism, criminal damaging and criminal trespassing.”
I knew a woman with two kids who was widowed when “youths” in Detroit dropped a cider block from a pedestrian bridge onto her husband’s car windshield.
And Ohio is one of the States that won't honor my MS CCW permit...
Ohio is weird like that. We have Castle Dcctrine and CCW but won't reciprocate with some states.
