Chuck Connors was a dedicated republican and campaigned for Reagan and was friends with republican presidents.

Does anyone remember Adderly? It was a Canadian spy show (1986-89) with a touch of humor.

But, yeah, Bill Cosby in a hopped-up Ford van with Raquel Welch is much more realistic.

Well, yeah. Have you ever ridden in the back of an ambulance, circa about 1972? A hopped up Ford Van was exactly what our squad had. Though, "hopped up" is a misnomer, because it could barely get out of its own way. :-)

When the squad upgraded to an E350 with a box on the back, it was great. You could almost stand up in it, sort of, if you had good balance. :-)

Working on a volunteer squad, operating on a shoestring, gives a slightly different perspective. For instance, we used a lot of "repurposed" army surplus material. What the heck, it worked. I learned how to take a car apart with little more than hand tools...there was a "Jaws of Life", that was shared out among 8? 10? towns. Good luck waiting on it, it was faster to crib up the cars so they were solid, then pull them apart. We did have a mini-jaws, called a "PortaPower" that was good for cutting doorposts and steering wheels.

Licencing requirements were substantially different - as a "volunteer" squad, we weren't allowed to admin anything IV, also defibrillators were a major no-no, not that we could have afforded equipment like that, anyway.

But, we did a pretty good job with what we had, considering that a "Full-Blown" rescue squad was an 45 min or more away - one way. One of the prouder moments I've had - I recently went back home and wandered through the old neighborhood. I was talking to one of my old neighbors, and she made a special point to introduce me to her - now college aged - granddaughter. "This is Bill. His mom saved your life when you were a baby and you stopped breathing." I didn't have the words to reply. Told Mom about it and I could hear her grinning through the telephone.

Anyway - to get the thread back on topic - Emergency! Definitely a fun show. Realistic? Well, maybe from a distance, if you squinted a bunch.

Jeep?

Nah, wanted the .50 cal.

Especially since those were the only 2 .50 cal guns capable of penentrating the armor of a Tiger Tank...

Radio:
Lum and Abner
The Great Gildersleeve
Fibber Magee and Molly
Buelah
Amos and Andy
Our Miss Brooks
Gunsmoke

Luckily one of our radio stations here KIXI runs old-time radio shows and I immediately got hooked after listening.
I love to go to sleep to them.

Possibly my oldest memory was our entire family except Daddy sitting around the fireplace with our old radio playing. Daddy worked at Tyndall AFB and stayed at a boarding house during the week.

We had no electricity. The radio which was huge, ran on a battery about the size of a car batter but it had a paper covering and was some type of carbon inside. I don’t know how long the battery would last but probably not long.

I was only three but remember “Gangbusters” and “Amos and Andy” Mother would hold me and the other 4 kids just sat around the radio.

Without a doubt..when I was a child..my favorite tv show in 1955 was The Original Mickey Mouse Club. I loved all of the Mouskateers..especially Darlene Gillespie! I remember how she could dance and sing and act circles around everyone else, including Annette! She had a great smile as well~ Anyway..that was when I was five years old..

But more recently ?

# 8 = The X-files..simply because they had some great episodes, plus great writing always wins..

# 7 = Battlestar Galactica..again, great writing, even though the storylines were often more than just a tad Liberal..BEST special FX ever on a tv show!

# 6 = Twin Peaks..again.. superb writing, and direction, even if the story kept getting weirder and weirder..

# 5 = “24”, this show kept us all on the edge of our chairs, every episode..it was really fun to watch!

# 4 = Alias .. This series ROCKED..every single episode was better than most movies. J.J. Abrams really hit it out of the park with this one~

# 3 = Firefly .. THE single best Space Western ever produced..too bad this program wasn’t given any opportunity to exist for very long..only 14 episodes..but these were GREAT episodes!

# 2 = Fringe ..again, J.J. Abrams produced one of the most fascinating Science Fiction shows ever..and this time, FOX allowed this series to end properly~ Great writing, and
direction..

# 1 = Buffy The Vampire Slayer..my kid got me hooked on this one..this program has multi-faceted layers...it really isn’t about vampires and slayers and all that..sure, Joss Whedon is an idiot Liberal..but he’s a BRILLIANT writer, especially when writing dialogue. AND there is Sarah Michelle Gellar, ‘nough said.
