After over seeing a successful and critically acclaimed Olympic Opening Ceremony, Danny Boyle is returning to the big screen.
The British director is hoping to release a sequel to Trainspotting called Porno at some point in 2016.
The Slumdog Millionaire director has revealed that the long-rumoured follow up to his hit 1996 black comedy about a group of heroin addicts may finally hit screens in 2016.
The planned sequel comes 20 years after the original film, which starred Ewan McGregor and Johnny Lee Miller, was released.
Speaking to Indiewire.com, Boyle said: 'This has been a long time coming. The ideal time would be Porno in 2016 because it was 1996 when Trainspotting came out.
'20 years... It's like, wow, where did that go?'
Trainspotting was based on a novel by Irvine Welsh and the new film would loosely adapt Welsh's follow-up novel, Porno.
However, the director is still waiting on the right script from his long-time collaborator John Hodge, who wrote several of Boyle's biggest films including Trainspotting and the upcoming heist thriller, Trance.
He added: 'There's always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2. If John can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back.
'I think they'll wanna know that the parts are good so they don't feel like they are letting anyone down.'
Danny added: 'The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don't disappoint people.'

Up in Smoke?
Not familiar with this individual’s movies, as I am not much of a movie-goer, but seeing the disaster he made of much of the opening ceremonies is enough to turn me off to him.
Out of ideas, Danny?
I saw the original in the theater. Never knew it was a comedy until I read this article...
Why did you remove comment one?
This was an incredibly stupid movie put out by what passes for “film students” these days. Since most of the English speaking world couldn’t understand the atrocious Scottish accents in the first film, they’ve decided to make another.
Some people liked it some people hated it. I fit in with the former.
And there is no one who goes by the name of “moder_ator.” That account was banned a long time ago.
Thank you for your reply. I will remember it in the future.
