BRIARCLIFFE ACRES — Kyle Lamparter, police chief for Briarcliffe Acres, stopped a car that was driving while on fire about 7 p.m. Friday night, according to a police report.

Lamparter said he was parked near Middle Gate Road when he saw flames underneath the engine of Buick that was driving north on U.S. 17. Lamparter stopped the car and told the driver about the fire.

North Myrtle Beach firefighters responded to put out the fire.

Horry County police and the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety directed traffic around the burning vehicle.

No one was injured in the car fire, and the car was completely destroyed, Lamparter said. The driver was picked up by a family member and the damaged car was towed off the roadway.

Ah, thanks. Never was one for that highfalutin’ legal language.

Officer, did you administer a breathalyzer test?

Yes, your honor.

What did he blow?

Smoke rings.

That’s nothing.

Obama’s hair AND pants are on fire constantly every time he’s in public. yet no cops see fit to stop him and hose him down.

He might have been headed to Nevada for the annual Burning Man event.

I had an engine fire once in my Mercury Grand Marquis while driving in a strip mall parking lot early in the morning. Nothing was open where I could purchase a fire extinguisher. Left helpless, the little fire became a big fire.

You have never seen people rush so quickly to move their parked cars!

I emptied the trunk, retrieving everything of value (forgetting the CDs in the cabin).

First there was mostly smoke, until the fire made it to the passenger compartment, but the REAL fun came when the glass broke. The sudden rush of air made the fire shoot maybe 30 feet high. It was somewhat surreal. It would have been only interesting if it weren’t my car. But I wasn’t crushed by the experience, as my once white Mercury turned charcoal grey.

You see, the car had a great body, but in the short time I had owned it, I had to replace transmission, brakes, and other stuff to the tune of $2K. It STILL ran like crap. Then I was told the engine would need a $2K overhaul. I had been deciding whether I would throw good money after bad. On one level, it was nice that the decision was made for me.

Police stop car driving while on fire

I think as a policy, Policemen should not drive cars that are on fire. This is a good thing.

Probably because he's busy hosing US down.

Surprising how many truck fires I have run where the painters are driving down the road and the cigarette they flip out the window blows back into the bed of the truck on top of the lacquer soaked rags.
