Today being St. Patrick's Day, what better pick for today's feature could there be than this one?
I think since Medieval times women with red hair were thought, if not to be hand-maidens of the Devil outright, they were felt to have a strong disposition and were often viewed as less than the weaker sex. If memory serves me well I think Queen Elizabeth(daughter of Henry the Eighth was a redhead). Italians have been known to call redheads ‘’La Donna Fiero ‘’woman of fire’ or a ‘’fiery woman’’ referring to temperament. My familys ancestors were all from Ireland. My late mother was a redhead, my dad had jet black hair.Of seven kids, five boys and two girls only my youngest brother has reddish brown hair. Myself and my three other brothers all had black hair, now it’s mostly grey. My younger sister had hair that was black as coal and blue eyes and my youngest sister had very dark brown hair and green eyes. Alas though, I read somewhere that the gene that produces red hair in men and women is disappearing from the human genome and will be gone in a few hundred years.

It is interesting how red hair appears in families. My Mother had black hair although all her ancestors going back as far as we could go were Scottish. Daddy had light brown hair and same for him except one GGrand Mother who was a Collins which I think is Irish.
All of their 5 children were either black headed or brown, yet nearly every one of their Grandchildren are red heads.
Ah, the Lord moves in many ways in the makin’ of all things great ‘n’ small, eh? And if I may your Lordship/Ladyship, there isn’t anything human or animal that’s “Scottish’’. It’s “Scot’’. As in “He’s a Scot’’ or ‘’She’s a Scotswoman’’ or ‘’The Scots’’. Mark me well darlin’ were ye to make that mistake around Scots sure ‘n’ they would let you know and how!

‘’Collins’’ is indeed very Irish. However, as my own family research has shown many Irish names thought to be Irish, were actually Scot in origin. Many of the names with ‘’Mc’’ (as is part of my surname) are Scot in origin.Many Irish names were changed over generations for many reasons. Religious reasons, either marrying into or out of a Catholic or Protestant family or changed in order to enroll in an institute of higher learning, join the military or when immigrating here to America to hide a criminal record or a politically troubled past or to better fit into America society, to be ‘’free of the smell of the peat’’ as the saying went.
I suspect she was Irish but you can never be certain. She was small and judging from her 9 children’s looks was probably attractive.
She was also kin to Florida Governor LeRoy Collins but I am not sure exactly what but probably was a Cousin.

I recently saw an interview with the producers or whatever they were, of the Bond movies. It was an old interview but was included on a new DVD set.
They said they saw Connery in “Darby O’Gill” and agreed he would be a good Bond.
Oh yes. :-)
