TORONTO, March 18, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A U.S. company that provides software solutions to nonprofit organizations has refused service to the Canadian pro-life group Campaign Life Coalition, accusing it of supporting “hate, prejudice and bigotry."
CLC's Jack Fonseca told LifeSiteNews.com that recently Campaign Life Coalition asked an information technology (IT) consultant to help improve its business processes.
"He searched for a database solutions company that specializes in non-profits like ours," Fonseca told LifeSiteNews. The IT specialist found a company called The Databank, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The consultant also found an endorsement from a Jesuit retreat center in Atlanta, Georgia, on the testimonials page of the Databank's website.
"We are very happy with thedatabank so much (sic) that we have encouraged other Jesuit Retreat Centers to use it," said Sharon Machek of Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center.
But Fonseca says that after filling out a form on the company’s website to view a free online demo on behalf of CLC, the consultant received an email reply from Bridget Kelly, The Databank’s sales manager. It stated, “Please continue your search for nonprofit software. Our company values are not a good fit for your organization's mission. There is no need to view our online demonstration today. Thank you.”
At that point the consultant wrote a strongly worded e-mail to the company, calling its decision "outrageous. The company’s CEO, Chris Hanson, wrote back, and far from apologizing, dug in his heels. “Campaign Life Coalition positions on just about every issue are in direct contradiction with not only our personal beliefs and company mission, but also many organizations we currently work with,” he said.
“Sorry if you feel offended by Bridget’s response but I’m offended by organizations that seek to violate and restrict the human rights of women, gays, lesbians and others. The only amicable resolution for hate, prejudice and bigotry is to eliminate it.”
According to Fonseca, “The IT executive, who had no prior connection to CLC and works in the secular world, was absolutely stunned that a company providing a morally neutral product, i.e. database software, would discriminate against a pro-life organization over their moral and ethical beliefs."
I create databases for a living and I live near CLC headquarters. Time to submit a bid.
Sue the hell out of them under the stoooopppiiid Canadian Human Rights Commissions.
But we have roughly the same sorts of lynch mob commissions in most states.
I don’t have any problem with this as long as other business are allowed to act according to their beliefs - but they’re not, are they?
If we, as honest conservatives, believe in the right to contract freely, then we can’t oppose them on this.
Let these disgusting supporters of abortion go on without our business... and let us do business with companies that welcome pro-lifers.
Just as, if we want a Christian landlord to have the right to restrict rentals to gay couples, we must allow a gay landlord to have the right to restrict rentals to Christians.
In a free economy, there will be contracting parties on all sides, willing to meet each others’ need.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t be outraged at this software company... sure, be outraged... sure, boycott them... but don’t ask the government to step in.. Always think of it as if the shoe were on the other foot. We don’t want the government to have the ability to harass our side any more than they already (usually unconstitutionally) do.

No one is going to be sued, not is anyone doing anything illegal in this case.
For example, in all US jurisdictions it would be illegal for a business to say, “I am not going to serve you because you are black” and in some jurisdictions it would be illegal for a business to say, “I am not going to serve you because you are gay.”
However, in this case, the organization that is being denied service is being denied service due to its position on some political issue.
The Pro Life Group has no case!
That is unless you would want to be be sued for refusing to rent a piece a property that you owned to Planned Parenthood.
Technological tyrany should work both ways.
That company has a strange idea about "good fit". Anyway, who wants to do business with a company run by turd pokers, except other turd pokers?
Or, unless you are a baker who doesn't want to be sued for refusing to bake a "wedding" cake for a couple of carpet munchers or turd pokers.

It depends on the laws of the jurisdiction in question.
In most jurisdictions the baker can refuse service for a gay wedding, while in some jurisdictions he cannot.
Works for me. This helps establish a precedent, and it also tips me off on businesses I will not support.
I am not so sure you are correct.
The businesses you mentioned just say “we do not agree with your life style”, it is homosexuals who then say they are bigots and hate mongers.
I have never seen a company so vile. The CEO could have just as easily said, “I am sorry you feel that way but our business mission seems to be different than yours, there are plenty of companies which I feel would work better for you”.
People’s status by race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability are protected and in some places sexual orientation is protected.
This being an organization with a political position is not protected by any law.
And that is good.
