The invasive porkers have made themselves at home across more than three quarters of the U.S. and are responsible for an estimated $1.5 billion in damages each year. Most worrisome is their ability to learn from each encounter with a frustrated human.

...

The wild pig population in the U.S. has ballooned to more than 5 million. In one year alone, federal managers trapped and killed more than 32,000 pigs from 28 states and collected thousands of samples to check for the nearly three dozen diseases feral pigs are capable of carrying and passing on to humans, livestock and other wildlife

We get a lot of them. I’ve seen groups of 20-30 across the road from me.

They will have as much success in ridding this country of the hogs as they have in eliminating the snakes in Florida-none, not a chance in hell.

Better yet, put a bounty on the pigs. Start it at $50/head.
That will get you 20,000 dead feral pigs for the million.

We’ve been killing and trapping hogs for years and we’ve yet to catch up, I kill everyone I see. For years my ranch rifle (the one that rides in the truck daily) was a Ruger Model 77-243cal, now it’s a Panther Arms LR-308. When I get into a sounder I want as much firepower as I can muster. Last year went on a helo hunt with my brother and we were both using Bushmaster 223 and all I’ll say is thats the way to go. We took out 76 hogs in a little over 4 hrs of flying time. This is not our trip but it will give you an idea. I rode the skids on a Huey back in 1970 and he was riding them in 68, we had a blast. 1500.00 apiece for a 4 hr hunt.

Thought that was a pretty good idea too, till I realized 20,000 pigs would be 4 tenths of one percent of the total population.

I gave thought to allow an industrial option, by allowing the collection of these for pet food. Make it profitable to get rid of them, and they will be gone.

Who said that an AR-15 cannot be used as a hunting rifle?

They breed very fast.

Spend the bucks capturing the boars and or male young'uns, spay 'em, turn 'em loose again. Let them screw themselves into extinction.

OK two things that hog was dead after third shot, they go into the death kick 90% of the time and it ain’t no where near 300 LBS. but yes the AR’s seem to be the weapon of chice when hunting hog’s, I switched to one just for the firepower. I try to get as many as I can.

Allot of the boys down here are shooting suppresed 300 Blk’s with Infra Red scopes.

What they need to do is save the money and just allow helo hunting of hog’s. The outfitters charge a good price, a little revenue comes back to the state and theres a list of hunters willing to pay to hunt hogs from a helo.

Put a bounty on them, hunters will get rid of the quick...thats how it use to be with vermin...Now they make regulations so you have to pay (license) to get rid of vermin.

I have an Idea... combine MeganC and your solution ... MeganC says $50 bounty, you guys got 76 hogs for $3,000 flying time... it is a win win win win

The chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.
