New Jersey police and Dept. of Children and Families officials raided the home of a firearms instructor and demanded to see his guns after he posted a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son holding a rifle.
“Someone called family services about the photo,” said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. “It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids.” Moore was not arrested or charged.

According to the story I read, he didn’t let them in the house, and they didn’t push the issue because they didn’t have a warrant.
As usual - the headline is probably misleading and there is more to the story than is being told.
It doesn’t take much for an angry bitter ex wife/relative/friend/whatever to call in a bogus report. And a rifle???? OMG. What more proof do you need?
It also helped to have his lawyer on the speaker phone as a witness.
No warrant, no entry. End of discussion.
Original thread from two days ago.
The familys trouble started Saturday night when Moore received an urgent text message from his wife. The Carneys Point Police Dept. and the New Jersey Dept. of Children and Families had raided their home.
Moore immediately called Nappen and rushed home to find officers demanding to check his guns and his gun safe.
Instead, he handed the cell phone to one of the officers so they could speak with Nappen.
Thanks for that link...I did a search before posting...:(
I see nothing wrong with that picture.
OMG!! what is next are they going to raid the home of Little Carl who is on the Walking Dead for walking around with a gun?
The cops didn’t push the issue, that is they didn’t force their way in. However the DYFS agent pushed the issue, threatened the family with taking their kids, and the cops knew that the family’s lawyer was on speakerphone and listening to every word being said. The fact that four LEOs came with the DYFS creep showed they intended an active visit.
What is the problem with a kid holding a rifle? Shooting ranges around here have no real age limit as long as a parent is with them. They can even have birthday parties.
Nothing illegal about the pic, not even a suggestion of a problem in the pic.
Yes, because tons of government regulations trump the U.S. Constitution, so confirming that a violation takes time and speed is of the essence to search the premises for that evil black gun. These frikkin' people make my head hurt.
The cops only balked because they knew they were being “watched”. There is not even a hint of anything illegal in that pic.
I didn’t post it to chastise you. Two days is well past the moderator’s recommended four hour limit for re-posting and posting from another source is not considered re-posting. I only added it to cross-link back to the first thread for the information. :)
This is why the police must have drones. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have time to monitor all the Facebook pages.
This needs to be out there.
Have folks yet figured out that privacy laws protect government and not individuals?
I can’t wait until they start raiding the homes of fat people for posting pictures of themselves eating on their Facebook page.....
Surely Moochelle Obama would love that!
The essence of being a boy/man is learning how to handle dangerous or potentially dangerous things and NOT GET HURT. Tools, hatchets, guns, knives, fire, chemicals, boats, etc. Dad teaches his sons the proper and responsible use of these things. The boy doesn’t get hurt and enjoys being a boy.
Modern liberalism hates BOYS and anything about being a boy.
The father should be commended for teaching his son the proper and safe use of a firearm.
How could anyone at Child Services have been bothered by that?
That’s cool! Is there one for children through the age 58? ;-)
That's a rimfire AR clone, but the lower reciever could be pre-ban and legal (which is probably why there was no warrant).
That is every day
This is the Facebook photo that led to the police raid.
Moore took this photo of police outside his home.
I wish it was every day for me! lol
OMG! If “they” see that thirty year old photo of my daughter holding a Colt .22 SAA I’m a dead man!
From Fox News Radio: You cant be prosecuted for making an allegation of child abuse even if its false, she said”
A false and misleading report regarding children is acceptabel? Tell that to Scooter Libby.
This part is scary...residents need to change this law > ASAP.
COME AND TAKE IT!
The same reason they object to being put on video while in action.
That kid is so obviously a happy, healthy and normal American kid that he drives the liberals nuts.
0bamaCare does have provisions for neighborhood monitors so it’s not at all unbelievable that pics of fat people eating would result in visits from the authorities.
In the dead of night, huh?
Yes, we are! :) heh
The problem was potential resistance to communism.
That was the crime.
Hey Dept. of Children and Families!
Look at his finger...
Now look at my finger.
“I was told I was being unreasonable and that I was acting suspicious because I wouldnt open my safe, Moore wrote on the Delaware Open Carry website. They told me they were going to get a search warrant. I told them to go ahead. Nappen [the lawyer] told Fox News the police wanted to inventory [his client’s] firearms. We said no way, its not happening, he said. This is a guy who is completely credentialed and his son is also credentialed. The attorney said police eventually left and never returned.
He has a Fourth Amendment right and hes not going to give up his Fourth Amendment right or his Second Amendment right, he said. They didnt have a warrant so see you later.
enough hard working, freedom loving citizens leave that cesspool and they’ll starve
The young man has his trigger finger in the correct position.
It is obvious that the parents taught their son responsible, proper and safe firearm handling.
And which goes against the state plan and objective of taking the role as sole parent of all children living within the state.
Allous father ... should have gotten him a pencil barrel 14.5 inch w/permenently attached flash suppressor to bring to 16+ inches carbine with a floating Z-Rail. Crass daddy fer shur.
Look at the ejection port ... that is an AR with a .22lr insert bolt and .22lr mag. It is easily put back into 223/556 configuration. AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! The Bible says to raise up a child int he way that they should go ... teaching proper safety and handling of tools is part of raising up the child properly.
Would be interesting to know Governor Fat Boy’s take on this...
