A San Francisco police officer shot and killed a homeless man's dog in Golden Gate Park on Monday afternoon, a police spokesman said. Police said the officer was being bit at the time.
Here's what happened, according to police: at about 4:55 p.m., the officer was trying to wake up the man near Alvord Lake on the eastern side of the park near Stanyan Street when the transient's dog started barking.
The officer backed away, but the dog, believed to be a pit bull mix, broke free, ran toward the officer and bit him.
The officer shot and killed the animal.
The officer was treated back at the police station for the dog bite.
I’d probably shoot a dog that was biting me too, especially a pit bull.
There have been a few policeman vs dog incidents lately in which the dog was killed. It appears that most were not justified. This one, however, appears totally justified.
Dog bites cop...dog dies.
End of story.
Justified or not... have to post this image...
Yeah, I would have shot him too.
They would have been better off just shooting the homeless man. (BTW, are they still called homeless during a Democratic Administration, or to the go back to being called Bums or Hobos?)
“The officer was treated back at the police station for the dog bite.”
Wasn’t much of a bite at all, then, to require “treatment” at the police station.
Wouldn’t you think they’d be much more concerned about rabies, etc, and get real professional help and veterinary analysis, rather than “treatment” by SOMEONE at the police station to “end” the story?
Why are we so quick to believe the printed “news” as long as it isn’t directly related to politics?
He’ll probably sue the city for the 20% loss of wages he’s going to lose trying to panhandle without his furry sympathy generator next to him...
For the most part, I despise the trend toward cops shooting dogs, but this one, IMO, warrants it. If a pitbull attacked and bit me, I’d shoot it, too.
A dog bit me two years ago, when I wasn’t carrying. I shot it three days later. Fool me once....
Golden Gate park is probably the largest homeless encampment on the west coast. Crazy SF liberals actually give dogs, many pitbulls, to the homeless there who use them for protection. It is a decrepit and dangerous situation. There have been other recent pitbull attacks as well. You can look at it as the model society if we keep following the Obama path.
Once again - I’m cleaning Diet Coke offa my monitor.
I don’t care how nice San Francisco is to homeless people. Why should any homeless person want to live somewhere colder than the arctic circle. I would never want to live outside there. Even polar bears wouldn’t. Have you ever been there?
This is a legitimate shooting. What galls me is when the cops show up at the WRONG house and shoot the dogs before violating an innocent person’s 4th Amendment rights. Or when they show up at the right house and then go outside and shoot the dogs that are secured in a pen, tied up, or otherwise posing no threat whatsoever to the cops.
Seems odd that a dog bite would require “treatment” at a police station, and not at the hospital.
No rabies testing?
You don’t test the bite victim for rabies, you test the animal that did the biting—after it is dead.
So everyone who is thinks the Illumnati and Bilderbergers are behind the lack of a test for the cop should keep in mind that they would have to take part of his brain to test—anywhere from one to two months later.
