STONE COUNTY -- A woman accused of hoarding dogs has surrendered to authorities at the Stone County Sheriff's Department, where she is being booked on one charge of simple animal cruelty and 117 counts of animal neglect, authorities confirmed Thursday.
Shirley Guy has been sought since Tuesday, when sheriff's deputies, veterinarians and animal shelter volunteers along with representatives from the Humane Society of the United States went to a home she owns on Terry Cuevas Road and seized 117 mixed-breed dogs living there without food or water. Guy did not live at the home.
Deputies also found dead dogs inside and outside the home, some stuffed inside old dog food bags and placed in large black garbage bags outside.
Sheriff's Deputy Chief Phyllis Olds said Guy has agreed to surrender the animals to authorities, which means the animals, once rehabilitated, will be eligible for adoption.
Thursday is the not the first time Guy has faced arrest for violations involving dogs.
On Aug. 23, 2005, she was arrested, but not convicted, in Waveland for violating a city ordinance dealing with animal cruelty and leash laws. Court officials there say many city records were destroyed in Katrina, resulting in no resolution in some cases.
After Guy is booked on the charges in Stone County, she will be released on a $3,000 bond.
Neighbors said Guy showed up at the home on Terry Cuevas Road every now and then to either drop off more dogs or to dump a 50-pound bag of dog food over the fence in the backyard for the dogs to eat.

MS shameful PING!
If your neighbor has 117 dogs -- or even 50 dogs -- you should call the police, not give her dog food.
Animals, Trash, Food, Cloths, Nothing is ever thrown away.
I feel sorry for them because as obnoxious as they are, they are mentally ill.
Yes, she is ill, indeed. There must have been some way to get this poor soul some help.
It used to be that someone in her condition would be hospitalized to be evaluated by psychiatrists, and probably committed to psychiatric care, but the “do gooders” of the country took away that option.
Sounds like me with guns and ammo.....mentally ill I think not.
Guns and ammo do not need food and water to survive......
...if you don't have to walk over yours stacked guns and ammo in every room then you're probably just a normal responsible husband and father, grandfather & homeowner.
I'm gonna send you a link someone sent me the other day called concealed in plain site.
She was the one showing up dumping the 50-pound bags of dog food, not her neighbors. Another earlier story said that it was neighbors who alerted authorities to begin with.
Would you please send me that one, too?
I think this company has other products as well.
Very cool! :-)
Honey, check out TexasCajun’s comment #10, the You Tube video. I want one of those for us. :-)
I went to the website and they have a nice end table that works the same.
I’m going there to see...
Those are really nifty, but waaaaay out of my price range. :-/
Looks like she ran out of food for her suburban livestock, before the end of the world happened.
Where’d it say the neighbors were giving her, or the dogs, food?
Granted, the neighbors noticed the woman would show up with food every now and then, and you’d like to think that if they knew the true extent of the the situation that they would have contacted someone about the animals. But then, maybe they are of the keep to yourself kind of thing, not wanting to make waves, etc.
Guessing they knew the true extent and did nothing, which is sad on a whole different level.
The woman, the “alleged” hoarder, well, I really can’t say on a public forum what type(s) of punishment she deserves.
