We are now five years out from the worst financial crisis in modern history, and still the yoke around the neck of the average American seems to tighten with every new tax, fine, fee and law adopted by our so-called representatives. Meanwhile, the three branches of government (Executive, Legislative and Judicial) and the agencies under their commandDefense, Commerce, Education, Homeland Security, Justice, Treasury, etc.have switched their allegiance to the Corporate State with its unassailable pursuit of profit at all costs and by any means possible.
As a result, we are now ruled by a government consumed with squeezing every last penny out of the population and seemingly unconcerned if essential freedoms are trampled in the process. This profits-over-people mindset has taken various forms in recent years, ranging from the rise of privatized, for-profit prisons which require the states to keep their jails full to capacity to the overcriminalization phenomenon which has subjected Americans to a slew of inane laws that outlaw such innocuous activities as making and selling unpasteurized goat cheese, cultivating certain types of orchids, and feeding a whale. Included in the mix are the preponderance of red light cameras, sold to communities as a means of minimizing traffic accidents at intersections but in fact are just a vehicle for levying nuisance fines against drivers often guilty of little more than making a right-hand turn on a red light.

Make everybody a criminal and it insures the govt. a steady income string.
Soon, we will all have nothing...
Can’t get blood from a turnip....
Then where will they get $$$$...
When all crimes are commercial
What’s ironic is that the parents that are BEING RESPONSIBLE and keeping their kids out of government schools are being punished, while the parents that subject their kids to that brainwashing and straight-out abuse are not punished.
Just the way the white hut wants.....
Sounds like this could be, tangentially, of interest to the homeschooling ping-list.
what do you mean? how am i as a homeschooler being punished? and if i am, how is that ironic?
“what do you mean? how am i as a homeschooler being punished? and if i am, how is that ironic?”
You’re doing the same thing as those people in Baltimore. In both cases, you’re trying to protect your kids from the state.
For the people in Baltimore, they are doing the right thing, even if it’s called “truancy”. For you - you are also doing the right thing, as you’re not only protecting them, you are educating them.
So I’m not referring to you directly, but rather the parents in Baltimore, who seem to have enough wisdom to keep them out of the schools.
This ping list is for articles of interest to homeschoolers. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping List. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added or removed from either list, or both.

I didn’t click through to read the article. Does it get better, more relevant? So far, I don’t see any relation to schooling in this poorly written piece. Two paragraphs of throat clearing. Get to the point. Give me a frikken topic sentence. Sheesh.
Its not new... I’ve been a few times to traffic school in CA. You can spend a weekend boning up on traffic safety and when you graduate the class, in exchange the citation gets dismissed. The traffic ticket “bail” is converted into the traffic school fee.
