Got this for $350 when taxes are included. Has Windows 8. I have not opened the box yet and will wait until Sunday to see if there isn't some thing better out there at Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot etc...
So what do freepers think of this model? The CPU comes in at above 2100 on CPU benchmark site and I will be adding 4gb memory soon to make 8gb. This cpu is Ivy Bridge which is the latest

Last weeks sale price at OfficeMax (where I bought it) was $350 when tax is included.
As best you can, try not to bend the cable near the plug, or jostle the area too much, but that's probably sound advice for any laptop, not just Toshiba.
I have an Toshiba laptop A665 running Windows 7 Home Edition. Over 2 years old. Very solid computer, I can’t think of a single problem.
The extra memory won’t make any difference on a 32 bit system. I can only use 4 Gigs.
I got a new HP with windows 8. This program looks like some kid made it. It looks like some teenybopper game. It is not easy to use and really counter intuitive.
Finally retired the old Satellite - it never let me down. If this one is anything like it, you’re in good hands.

I have a Satellite that’s been a workhorse for years except the LCD converter burnt up so I use another monitor.
Don’t know about the model specifically but if this is your first dance with Windows 8, you’re in for a rough week.
Stick with it, eventually you get the hang of it and it can be adjusted to look like a 7.
Let us know if you find a way to get rid of that damn space needle image at logout. I never could.
I have a Toshiba Satelite that is still going strong. Has a label on it saying “Windows XP, 2005” on it - so that must have been when I bought it!
It started off as my portable field computer, but quickly became (and still is) my main PC as well(hooked to external keyboard, monitor, etc.).

Having no need to replace a laptop for years says a lot about that laptop, I agree. During hurricane season I might have 10 heavy-duty radar/satellite graphics running and nothing ever gets stuck.
I didn’t see that in the ad. I’m using a U 500 Satellite with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I’m very happy with it, except the damn thing can’t spell right.
Got a 2 yr old Toshiba i5. Excellent brand. Buy an extended warranty (I didn’t.)
I’m dreading the day when it dies and I have to get Windows 8. Maybe I can hold out to Windows 9?
Firefox has a v good built in spell check. Chrome spell check is iffy

It is annoying, Windows 8. Some witty freeper once called it a Fisher-Price start screen. However, you can google plenty of things to help redesign it. “Windows 8 start screen” can be altered to the classic start; Stardock can help you make it resemble an Apple, with an object dock, or change the start screen background to something that doesn’t look so psychedelic. There’s so many creative people out there, and most of the improvements are freebies.

Also, you have to spend some time at it, but in many of the commonly used programs, the default settings can be customized to your liking, it just takes a long time to find out what can be changed and how to do it.
Sometimes I just added old versions of programs; for example, Wordpad. It’s like a pair of old slippers, I don’t want the new ones with the bells, spurs, headlamps and bunny ears, I want what’s comfortable!
I need a program to check the user’s brain.
