Looking out my window from bed
1 inch of snow
Franklin TN
Pretty soft winter here....3 one inch snowfalls....that’s it
Nobody much in TN pours concrete from Thanksgiving to Easter unless emergency road repair or hard liquidated damages in the building contract...it truly slows down by 90%
Asphalt batch plants close too...completely
How do y’all do it?
Lol
No shock we both were on same page...
Slabs are poured indoors mostly in heated new home garages, happens up here even if its below zero F, footers are poured usually above 25f with Type 3 cement, a much faster reacting portland cement, then we use calcium chloride that is essentially salt that further yet speedens up hydration, last but not least is hot water, lots of it.
Forms are usually tarped off and heated with heaters, big stuff, sometimes I have seen huge airport types of equipment to heat up a project. Its a lot of work and of course the costs go up for almost anything here in Alaska because of those condition, you have to improvise and adapt to the weather.
And the Alaska winter is 6 months long, you just cannot stop because of the cold, you work with it. Oh it fights back tooth and nail every day, its the way it is.
We had a white Christmas, but that was it. Very mild this year.
