The Portland Thorns are removing a T-shirt from store shelves and the team's website in response to criticism that its slogan "Feelin' Thorny?" was sexist.
The T-shirt was gone in slightly less than 24 hours since the controversy broke on Facebook and was fueled on other social media platforms.

Oh, they would NOT have liked the Vesely MN hometown baseball team when they went back to wooden bats. They had teeshirts printed up that said, “We’re Sportin’ WOOD!”
Maybe it’s just me but that slogan, “Feeling Thorny?”, smells of both racism and homophobia.
Mob rule. Thugocrats. Everybody wants to be a petty dictator. Remember when noone freaked out about silly stuff - or they even laughed - because it was a free country? Remember when parents told their kids, "Don't make a federal case out of it"? Nowadays, what *isn't* a federal case?

Women's sports are walking a tightrope. They want to be selling sport, not cheesecake, but good looks help sell tickets. I imagine this is a frustration -- U.S. women's soccer is among the best in the world, the USWNT brought home the Olympic gold medal, and girls soccer is firmly established through the collegiate level. Yet two women's professional leagues have failed financially, and yet a third attempt is now underway. So if you have an Alex Morgan, you find a way to get her picture out, but you don't want to cross the line.
This problem isn't limited to soccer or to women's sports by any means. In this country, men's professional football, basketball, and baseball roll in the dough. Hockey hangs in as a strong number four, and men's soccer has now grown to the point that it seems financially stable, with a tv contract. Everybody else starves.
We grouse about other countries that provide government funding for national and Olympic teams, but the fact is, we provide lavish funding, much of it public, through the university system, until graduation. Then most of our athletes are cut off. The superstars find sponsors, and everyone else scrapes by. I'm not advocating state funded professional athletics, but I do wish we could find club systems that provided better and broader support post college for the top players. And I hope that women's professional soccer can find a sustainable business model. I'd hate for our next World Cup and Olympic teams to be composed of young women who have all gone to Europe to play.
So if I have this right a woman can go on Slut Walks and feel empowered. She can dress like a whore, get drunk, flash her boobs and flirt with men constantly and that’s perfectly fine.
