These photographs capture the views from the top of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

A group of Russian tourists waited until official visiting hours were over at Egypt's famous Giza Necropolis, before scaling the enormous Great Pyramid as the sun began to set.

The Russians managed to escape the attention of security guards at the ancient site, allowing photographer Vitaliy Raskalov to snap pictures of the surrounding desert and the majestic Sphinx from the top of the 455ft structure.

The pictures aren't all that spectacular, but climbing the Great Pyrmid in the dark sure is a wild stunt.

I wonder what "Hold muh beer" equates to in Russian...

It looks like they weren’t the first, if I’m not mistaken that graffiti carved into the stone in the first photo.

Pretty gutsy considering who’s in charge in Egypt.

I have been told that a bribe to the guards might give anyone such access.

I think the pics are really spectacular.

the only thing that would have made them better is is an 0dumb0 drone was flying by at the same time. :)

I climbed that same pyramid in the late 80’s, but didn't make it to the top. Still, I was amazed that they would allow anyone to climb on them. I would not have done it in the dark. The only way to do it was to pay someone a few pounds. Once you paid, it was all good. Wish I'd taken the same pictures they did.

Two college friends of mine did exactly the same thing back in 1974. The guards spotted them, yelled a lot, but did not climb up after them. They spent the night (cold and uncomfortable) at the top, which is flat as the pinnacle stones were removed centuries ago, and came back down as it became light enough to see. What these Russians did is no biggie. Thousands of people have pulled that stunt.

“I have been told that a bribe to the guards might give anyone such access.”.

True that. I bribed a guard to let me take a photo while inside one of the pyramids. I did not use a flash so no damage was done.

When I was in Egypt, I saw graffiti carved into temples, usually just a name and a date — everything from French soldiers in the early 1800s to Englishmen making the grand tour in the 1920s.

The comments at the link are hilarious. Low information/perpetually outraged morons and their 'holier than thou' babble.
None of the world famous ancient civilizations (not a single one) have been protected, cherished, studied and deciphered by the locals. Those imperialist Europeans and other 'westerners' have done all of the heavy lifting, preservation and understanding.
The locals always destroy what is "theirs." Steal it apart, destroy it or just wantonly dismantle it. The Elgin Marbles were being ground up for mortar when Lord Elgin purchased what was left of them.

The only ancient temples, monuments and grand architectural wonders still preserved today exist only because the locals either didn't know they were there, or required too much work and effort to destroy them for other purposes.
